Was learning German a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my German How much did you improve your German?
My level before: Basic phrases My level after: At ease in most situations Personal comments:
I went to the Heinrich Heine Universität in Düsseldorf to take the intensive German course. I couldn't help speaking English with my friends, but sometimes they were hard on me forcing me to speak German. This was vey helpful. I think the best way to learn a language, better than taking a class, is to talk, listen to the TV, Radio, reading books and interact with the language, classes are not as helpful. My german has improved enormously. The best thing to do is to speak as much German as possible and not worry about making mistakes. (Hard I know!) People are very patient and are prepared to help you out. It is easy to fall in with a crowd who speak your own language but try to speak as much german as possible because it is amazing how quickly you improve. At first its a bit nerveracking, but most people are patient. Its a question of just making the most of what ability you have at every possible moment. All the Professors addressed us in German and all the students did too. The main problem is when people find out that you are not German they want to speak your language to improve their skills. the german variety spoken in Duesseldorf is rather good and intelligible. Many natives are rather fluent in English and this could be a deterrent in the first weeks. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Courses in German were pretty hard, but teachers were also always available to help international students. It was a bit difficult to interact with local students. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself
