HOUSING
by Annemarie, Fachhochschule Hof, Hof, Germany
Business Studies, Erasmus
Personal assessment
Cost
KEY:
Couldn't have asked for more.
Pretty good.
Could've been better, but didn't lessen the overall experience.
Disappointing.
Facilities
Location
Cleanliness
Space
Type of housing: dormitory
Arranged by: Independently - My choice
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why? you live with a lot of other students and therefore it also quite easy to meet new people.
Personal comments:
The housing was ok, it was good because a lot of students lived there and therefore you have a lot of social contacts. But it was too expensive compared with the comfort they offered.

Travel
Overall
Describe host city: Students equally interact with the local and student community
Travel: Takes place mostly within the university/student environment
Nightlife: Takes place mostly outside the university/student environment
Activities: Takes place both within and outside of the university/student environment
Personal comments:
I didnt participate in any sport but in all the activities that were offered by my school. I liked the Cafe Grand Cafe. There are plenty of bars and like le Corbeau, that was pretty nice, and pubs, like Boca loca and Celtica where you can dance until morning. Music festival will still come in summer, that will be nice.

No, it wasn't.
Was learning the local language a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my knowledge
How much did you improve your English?
My level before: At ease in most situations
My level after: No problems in any areas (including slang)
How much did you improve your local language?
My level before: Did not speak it
My level after: Basic phrases
Personal comments:
As Belgium has two official languages it is even more difficult, because I don't know any of them. On average, some misunderstanding appeared quite often in public places. In university no problems occured, as mostly everybody speaks very good English.
