Students can obtain a very cheap (25 euros) ticket for a whole year for the public transport in Brussels. Contact the Erasmus coordinator for details.

EHSAL is a Flemish-speaking university, so "local language" in my case refers to Flemish, although most people in Brussels speak French and my French skills are much better.
