HOUSING
by Johanna, University of Greenwich, London, United Kingdom
Business Studies, Erasmus
Personal assessment
Cost
KEY:
Couldn't have asked for more.
Pretty good.
Could've been better, but didn't lessen the overall experience.
Disappointing.
Facilities
Location
Cleanliness

Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Independently - My choice
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why? Prefer living in shared appartments. It's nice to have both flatmates and a possibility to have your own peace and quiet time.
Personal comments:
Staff at IPAG were very helpful and gave us great advice. They also recommended the agency that we rented the flat from.

ACADEMIC
by Kim, Hogeschool Holland, Diemen, Netherlands

Fantastic.

Could've been a bit better.
Disappointing.
Variety of courses

Course recommendations:
Courses in French are difficult (even for a person who spoke fluent french be4 going there) and the english classes are really easy.

Language difficulties
Social
KEY:
No problems.
I coped pretty well.
Sometimes it was difficult.
It was a constant struggle.
Educational
Administrative / Institutional
Overall
Language of instruction: English
Was learning English a key decision factor?
No, it wasn't.
Personal comments:
The course was thought in English so there was no difficulty with that, we were required to carry out several presentations throughout the course which were really helpful with improving presentation skills. Living in Nice did not require very advanced French speaking skills, which i think was probably the only negative thing of the whole experience as i did not improve my French.

EXPENSES
by Rory, Central Michigan University, Mount Pleasant, United States
Business Studies, Exchange program
The accessibility of student needs
Second-hand text books
KEY:
Very easy.
Minimal effort.
Accessible but required effort.
Almost impossible.
Second-hand household items
Computers / Internet
Administrative
Money from home
Main source of funding:
Personal savings
Other sources of funding:
Government assistance
Work opportunities:
I didn't explore any work options
Personal spending habits:
The nightlife was much more expensive because Nice is a big city and prices are always higher in the city for nightlife. I spent more in France on travel than I do at home because here at home i dont travel as often as i did there.
Travel, Nightlife: was more expensive than at home.
Overall, Telephone, Housing: was the same price as at home.
Food: was less expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
The ATM's will charge you a transaction fee for every withdrawl so i would withdraw the maximum amount of money i could and then leave it at home until i needed it cutting down on four or five more transaction fees.

I wish I had known...
The fact that you think, while you are abroad programme, that the friends you make from other countries will remain friends and maintain contact with them, but this is only the case about 10% of the time.
In my opinion:
Everybody loved it, you will too!

During my experience abroad, I ...
Became familiar with another culture
KEY:
Happened all the time.
Happened quite a lot.
Happened a bit.
Didn't happen.
Traveled
Improved language skills
Met people from other countries
Became more independent
Partied a lot
Experienced a change in life
Advanced my studies/career
Personal recommendation:
More computers and a bigger library

FINAL COMMENTS

Go skiing in February (day trips are very inexpensive). Travel outside Nice to enjoy proper sandy beaches. Make an extra effort to meet the local people, they are generally quite friendly.
