Type of housing: dormitory, but not on campus
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: dormitory
Why? Because it is a good environment to really get to know people.
Personal comments:
Copenhagen University needs to work on finding international students if not nice, an ok place to live. Since the whole city lacks dormitory rooms for danish/international students, the university is placing the international students at private housing and most of my fellow international students found it unsatisfactory. I was lucky enough to get a room in a dormitory but I have heard so many complaints from other international students.

Why? i would just choose to share the apartment with other student as i did, it's a best way to share costs and have a fine place of living.
Personal comments:
The housing service of Copenhagen University is not very helpful. The International Office didn't manage to provide all of the students with housing offers.

Personal comments:
Organisation by the international office was terrible, people were trying to find accomodation for the first months of moving here, also, some people did not receive their deposits after they returned home.

Type of housing: Private dormitory for any student in Copenhagen.
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why? It was very difficult getting to know people while living in Groenjordskollegiet. Few of the residents were students at KU, so there was no continuity of contact inside and outside of the classroom. Groenjords was also a considerable distance from downtown Copenhagen and the Anthropology Institute. I would rather have lived downtown with a Danish student as an apartmentmate.
Personal comments:
There is no standard accomodation for KU. There are a host of privately owned kollegiums, which students live in while they attend any institute of learning in Copenhagen. The rooms were adequate and private, perhaps too private. Each resident has a locked cabinet and a refrigerator shelf in the kitchen. Each room had its own small bathroon. The place is made of concrete and utterly depresing. Among some of the Danish students it was known as the suicide dorm because of the atmosphere as well as an actual suicide that had taken place there many years back.

Why? I enjoyed the experiences and knowledge I gained from my host family. I lived with them for 5 months and became extremely close to each of them.
Personal comments:
The housing program at DIS affiliated with Copenhagen University was extremely dedicated the students studying abroad. There were several different options available including living with a host family, in a kolligieum, with a Danish student, or on your own in an apartment.

Personal comments:
Copenhagen University place most foreign students in family homes, etc. But they do have some places in student halls (kollegium), so if you get offered a place - grab it! Life in the halls, living with Danish students, was excellent.

Type of housing: room in a flat with an older women and a student
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: the same
Why? I had a very good relationship with my flatmates and the area I lived in was just fantastic
Personal comments:
A lot of the other exchange students had problems with their landladies/-lords and the rooms have been very expensive sometimes. I was one of the few very lucky ones with a quite cheap room in a great area and great flatmates.

Why? In my opinion, it is easier to meet other students that are in the same situation as you are if you live close to them. The area where I was living was somehow outside the main students area.
Personal comments:
The university provides an housing offer to every Erasmus student and that makes the task of arranging a place to stay much easier. In fact, the housing situation in Copenhagen is very complicated because there is a shortage of accomodation for foreign students an the prices are quite high.

Type of housing: student dorms off campus
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: dorms
Why? Because apartments are incredibly expensive, and you get to live with others. ie. not so lonely!
Personal comments:
It was so hard for many students to find housing in Copenhagen. I was lucky to be put in a dorm, but there were many who had to rent a room from middle aged singletons whom would not let the stuents use certain parts of the house ie. t.v, coach, cupboards. Was very restrictive.

Type of housing: Danish Kollegium

If returning, I would choose: Danish Kollegium
Why? Living in a kollegium gives you a chance to interact and make friends with the Danes, something that most exchange students aren't able to accomplish. However, kollegium conditions and costs vary a lot between buildings so do your research!
