HOUSING

Personal assessment
Type of housing: On campus
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: On campus
Why? I would choose to live on campus, because of the cheap accomodation and the location to the auditoriums. The University is located quite far from downtown. Transportation to and from the university can be quite time- consuming if you live outside the campus. Another reason for me to stay on campus, is that other accommodation, such as renting an appartment, is really expensive in Singapore.
Personal comments:
The room was quite small, if you take into account that I had to share it with another person. But the stay at Hall 9 was good and would have stayed there again if I had the chance. I met a lot of new and interesting personalities from all around the world, and learnt a great deal about the different cultures. STUDENT LIFE

Personal social experience
Describe host city: Students interact with the local community without much university involvement
Activities: Takes place mostly within the university/student environment Nightlife, Travel: Takes place mostly outside the university/student environment Personal comments:
There is a brilliant night life and club scene in Singapore. Boat Quay is a great place to begin the night having dinner and a couple of drinks. Mohammed Sultan Road is a road lined with top class DJ's and clubs and is the place to be and be seen. My favourite clubs were Zouk and Liquid Rooms. Another good hangout for mid-week parties is Carnigies which is a good international hangout and girlies drink free champagne on Wednesday nights. If you just want to meet some international folks and get some cheap food and drinks then head to the American Embassy on a Friday every fortnight...its great fun. Orchard Road is the place to shop too. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

My academic experiences
Course recommendations:
I would highly recommend the courses Entrepreneurship and International Busieness. These courses is built up in an interactive way and tought me alot that will be useful also later in my career.
My opinion of the university assessment
Personal comments:
There are always things that can be improved. The hierarchy within the administration at the university is not always very efficient. Things could be arranged differently that would ease the relationship between the administration and the students. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Language difficulties
Language of instruction: English
Was learning English a key decision factor?
No, it wasn't. How much did you improve your English?
My level before: At ease in most situations My level after: No problems in any areas (including slang) Personal comments:
Since English was my first foreign language taken in school I already had a good foundation when I decided to do a school exchange with an American high school for one academic year. Since then, also supported by many vacations into english speaking countries, my level of english reached near-native. Given the fact, that my home university's courses are all taught and instructed in English, I was perfectly equipped for going abroad. As my English is more American style, I had to get adjusted to the Asian prouniciation, but believe did very well in the end of understanding everyone. I certainly did not have any problems of voicing my concerns, or ideas to various topics. Singapore is a melting pot of various cultures, therefore also a hub of different languages spoken. I certainly did not pick up any of those, since without any prior knowledge asian languages always prove to be a hard task. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

EXPENSES

The accessibility of student needs
Main source of funding:
Government assistance Other sources of funding:
Personal savings Work opportunities:
It was not legal for me to work Personal spending habits:
Norway is a country based upon taxes and more taxes. By having all these taxes it makes Norway one of the most expensive countries in the world. Singapore is much cheaper in certain areas due to lower salaries and lower taxes. But there are areas where Singapore is more expensive, such as alcohol. A pint of beer is really expensive in Singapore. Nightlife: was more expensive than at home. Food, Travel, Overall, Telephone, Housing: was less expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
The biggest surprise was the poor access to computers and printers. But if you were able to buy/rent one you had unlimited internet access. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Important to choosing this university...
I wish I had known...
I am a person that finds it most challenging and interesting to experience new things as they come. It was not that difficult to adapt to the Singaporean way of living. But if you like to have everything planned, you maybe have to consider to get hold of all kinds of information about the culture and and region before you travel to Singapore and Malaysia. In my opinion:
Everybody loved it, you will too!
During my experience abroad, I ...
Personal recommendation:
NTU is a university with ambitions, and works hard to tighten the gap to NUS, to become the leading University in Singapore and South East Asia. FINAL COMMENTS
If you get the chance to study in Singapore.......Take it!!! Singapore is a great country to experience and to live in. There are certain things you have to put into consideration. If you are going to Singapore you have to go there with an open mind. You have to be active and not rely on others to invite you. Singapore can be a very cold society but if you are an open person curious about learning abut new cultures Singapore is a tremendous country to study in.
