I haven´t really talked in the previous sections about some travel opportunities but Rouen has plenty of them. It is situated only 100 km far away from Paris but the Normandy region has some beuatiful places to offer. First of all, you should plan to visit the famous Mont St.Michel Abbey ( the excursion will be organised by the ESC Rouen), moreover the North coast of Normandy with its beautiful cliffs and rocks ( cities: Etretat, Fecamp and Dieppe) is so lovely, and for fans of art and cultu... HOUSING

KEY:
Couldn't have asked for more.
Pretty good.
Could've been better, but didn't lessen the overall experience.
Disappointing.

Cleanliness
Space
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why? Well, I have lived in ARC which is situated right in the centre of Rouen. It was expensive, but I am sure that this investment was a good one. You have all the basic comfort you need, the contact with other international students, and especially a direct link to all the parties organised in downtown bars of Rouen.
Personal comments:
I was really impressed by the fact that when I have applied for a semester at the ESC Rouen, I had to choose between 5 different types of accomodation all organised by the host university. And the selection is really tremendous, from a small appartment at ANGO ( 9m˛ for 200 €) up to a room in downtown of Rouen for 450€. It saves me really a lot of time because looking for a reasonable and affordable accomodation is not really easy especially in bigger cities where the real estate market varies enormously. And the services you get offered ( during my stay in the ARC) such as breakfast, laundry services, parking etc.) was really impressive. In general, having been at all different student houses in Rouen, the atmosphere is really fantastic everywhere.

Travel
Overall
Describe host city: Student life dominates the city
Activities, Nightlife: Takes place mostly within the university/student environment
Travel: Takes place both within and outside of the university/student environment
Personal comments:
For all international students who wish to study at ESC Rouen I have one good advice: Don´t miss the first two weeks of the French Intensive Seminar, you will have partys ( sometimes 2 per night) every night at different locations, from house partys up to bigger parties in excellent bars like Highlands, O´Kallaghans or LA Hacienda. Don´t miss them. They are really superb and it is a big opportunity to get better connected with other students.

ACADEMIC       3.5 / 5
My academic experiences
Quality of courses
KEY:
Fantastic.
Pretty good.
Could've been a bit better.
Disappointing.
Variety of courses
Availability/access to resources
Interaction with teachers
Interaction with other international students
Interaction with local students
Course recommendations:
I have specialised myself in the area of Finance. The choice of classes in this area is relatively good, but the quality differs extremely. There are classes where you have really to work hard at to show your full credit in order to get a grade above 10 points. But on the other hand I was really dissapointed by some classes where you get 17 or 18 points overall only by filling out a newspaper test or making a short summary about a film.

My opinion of the university assessment

Overall
Language of instruction: French
Was learning French a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my French
How much did you improve your French?
My level before: At ease in most situations
My level after: No problems in any areas (including slang)
Personal comments:
Fortunately, I have had some classes in French and English where I could improve my skills in both languages. The first two or three weeks it was really hard to understand and to communicate with French students but when you have taken part in the Intensive French Seminar you will become more and more familiar with the slang and the specific terms of the language and afterwards you can communicate even easier. And having been in contact with many French students I have used this golden opportunity to speak more and more and to improve my French skills.

Personal recommendation:
It was not my first experience abroad, but it was really amazing. In the beginning, it is not really easy to adapt to the life in Rouen which is a little bit unusual for people coming from cities with millions of habitants, but you get very quick integrated through parties and different associations in the campus life. And what is concerned about the academic life, well, sometimes there should be some improvements to make, but personally I have gained a lot of experience, some subjects were really new for me, and writing dossiers of around 40 pages in a foreign language was a really exciting and important challenge especially for my future business life.
