Even though everyone says it is always warm in Italy, it isn't! Take a jacket, sweaters, etc. Also, Italians wear tight fitting clothes and never wear shorts or flip-flops, so if you don't want to be instantly recognized as a tourist, pack like an italian. Also, pack light, there are plenty of stores to buy stuff here. In my opinion:
Most people loved it.

Personal recommendation:
Too many Americans, but still a good place to study. FINAL COMMENTS
Make sure you travel! You get three day weekends every weekend, and a weeklong break in the middle of the semester, these are great times to travel. Also, enjoy the culture in Italy without comparing it to America--it is very nice but very different. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

I wish I had known...
American University is a very expensive school from my standpoint. Without financial support from lenders it would not have been possible. As an artist... it's not which school you attended but the connections that you have that forward you along in life. Your ideas will always be your own. Universities can provide helpful solutions to getting your name out there...but it's not often enough that artists are in the right circles in order to succeed. Thus the struggling artists who after Grad school wishes he/she had spent the money otherwise and continued art as a side hobby. NOT ME.. it's all or nothing. In my opinion:
Most people loved it.

Personal recommendation:
The Art Department in Rome isn't well coordinated with the Washington DC - American University location. I feel that if they are offering art classes they should be fully cooperative with the wishes and needs of hungry students who want more than just to sit and sip coffee at local bars and live the coveted artists life. FINAL COMMENTS
Please research and find out from other students who have studied your courses how they found the program. I feel that the Art program was one of the more difficult because unlike marketing...it's not all written out in black and white. Art must be lived and experienced. My saving grace was that I am a survivor. I've seen many give up and quit 3 semesters into the program...and failing to pick up the torch. Traveling tips... stay focused and don't get too wrapped up in extra curricular traveling. There will be plenty time for that after the study program is over. However...one must make certain decisions based upon one's willingness to succeed and financial background. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

I recommend AUR if you want to be in a small school where you know just about everyone. I prefer to go to small schools and I loved just about everyone I met at AUR and had lots of good times--some of the best of my life and some really great roomates. FINAL COMMENTS
I have been back to Rome since then to visit some Italian friends and friends that still go to AUR and every time I go I get sad because I miss everyone from the Spring of 2001. I am currently in New York City working at Parsons School of Design-NSU,where I am also pursuing my masters. Make a list of American things that you love. Bring those with you. Food, health and beauty aids and such. You'll miss them more than you can anticipate. Bring a zip drive for all of your pictures. In my opinion:
Most people loved it.

Personal recommendation:
If you like to go out and drink, party, and go to clubs you'll fit in just fine. If you're creative, intellectual, and smart, you might want to try somewhere else. If you are applying to this school as a freshman, don't let the website fool you. It's a very tiny school with a very tiny student body. Study abroad students make up the majority of the student population. They come and go every semester. It can be rough. FINAL COMMENTS
If I had to do it all over again, I probably would have gone somewhere else. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

I wish that I brought less stuff. I was always an over packer but I discovered that I could do a 12 day trip through 4 countries with just a standard sized backpack. You hardly need to bring anything but the very basics... when it comes to traveling youll be glad. In my opinion:
Most people loved it.

Its unorganized and a big headache, but I met people from every other english speaking university in Rome and from what I hear, they are all pretty much the same. ie john cabbot university. I guess its just the slow paced italian life style where you feel like nothign ever gets done. FINAL COMMENTS
Have fun and keep an open mind. Get cheap tickets on Europebyair.com, ryanair.com, and virginexpress.com. Travel as much as possiable, every country is so different and has so much to offer.... eurorails can be good, but i found alot of times its cheaper to fly everywhere if you get the cheap tickets. That AUR is not very well organized and they do not like to deal with strong willed students. If you have an opinion, they do not care. Also, there are many cliques, the study abroads stay together, the international students stick together, and it is hard to really get to know people there if you aren't into partying. In my opinion:
Stay home.
During my experience abroad, I ...
Personal recommendation:
Look elsewhere. If you are looking to enrich your self and your education, there are better options. I intended to transfer permanently to AUR and not even a month into the semester realized this was not a great place to get a degree from. FINAL COMMENTS
Do not believe the hype of AURs website. Also, if you are not doing study abroad but choosing to attend independently for a while, make sure that any courses you take can be transferred to a home university. If not, a home university may charge you a large amount to review what is applicable. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself
