Nearly everyone speaks really good English in Holland (in big cities for sure), so you really needn't Dutch, but at least understanding it and knowing a few words helps, e.g. if you'd like to go to a sports/dance club etc. English was no problem for me, we speak it at home university + I'd studied in the States

Course recommendations
Very practical! I'd like more focus on quantitative subjects. It's very easy to stop by professors' offices and talk. Interaction with locals - mostly with the ones who study at international programs as well, not so much other departments

Personal comments
Usually buying a bike facilitates travel a lot, but they are often stolen. Otherwise some good travel seasonal passes exist. Try to make copies of textbooks if you really don't need the whole book (for some courses for sure). Investigate budget travel, book early

Personal recommendation
Expect to read textbooks independently, "theory" is rarely covered in class. Make good use of vast library/computer resources. Interact more with other internationals, don't stick to your home college-mates

Not much of an out-goer myself! People tended to like El Saus... Some really good dance schools in the area + you can travel for big events to Amsterdam/Rotterdam and internationally
