Description:
The first university in Finland, Academia Aboensis, was established in Turku in 1640. In 1828, following the Great Fire of Turku, the university was transferred to Helsinki, the new capital of the country. Both teachers and students left the city, which for 90 years was without any university. Finland's achievement of independence in 1917 gave new impetus to these aspirations, and a campaign started that year by the Turku Finnish University Society raised 22 000 donations towards the foundation of a Finnish-language university. Thus the first Finnish University was founded in Turku in 1920. The University of Turku was a private foundation untill 1974, when the ownership of the University was transferred to the State.

If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why? There are several possibilities where to get accommodation, I preffer Kuunsilta - a bit far from the centre but quite new apartments in a quiet neighbourhood.
Personal comments:
I have also lived in Student Village for over a month, it was quite OK, too. The apartments there are being renovated, however if you get apartment in the older part, you will be sharing kitchen with other people. Student Village is much closer to the university, one saves money on bus tickets - unless you intend to cycle to school every day. Although I must say that not everywhere you can have a chance to ride your bike in -27 Celsius! It was fun! This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Puuteri is one of the best places in town to hang out on saturday night. It is a classy place. You also have Dynamo which is more alternative and you can find all kinds of people. another popular place is 57. It is always crowded and they have a famous Happy Hour everyday from 9 to 11. Course recommendations:
Teachers should be more interactive and to try to catch the attention of the audience. Students should also get their essays back with the teachers´notes to get the feedback

even though everybody in Finland speaks English, It is hard to find a job if you dont speak the local language which is virtually impossible. Alcohol (Drinks) and food in general is more expensive than in Germany. It is not easy to get a normal phone-connection to your room. A deposit has to be paid for this. => It is better to use a mobile phone in Finland. Food, Nightlife, Overall, Telephone: was more expensive than at home. Travel: was the same price as at home. Housing: was less expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
Go to the market place to buy vegetables. Don´t spend too much money in alcohol. Pay attention to your insurance, the health-care-center gives you only basic help. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

it is very well organized and everybody is kind and willing to help you if you have any doubts or difficulties FINAL COMMENTS
finland is a very beautiful country and the people are very nice, but it gets some time to get in touch with them, you need to be patient. travelling is expensive but there are special discounts for students. it is something to do because finland is different from anything else, specially from the european southern countries. one of the things i liked the most was SAUNA, it is something one has to experience at least once in a lifetime This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself
