Universidad de Cantabria (UC)
Universidad de Cantabria, Avda. Los Castros, s/n, 39005 Santander, Spain
Description:
The University of Cantabria is a young public university, created by a Decree passed on the 18th of August, 1972. Until then, university education in Santander was limited to the courses offered by The School of Civil Engineering, established in 1966, and the specialism in Physics in the Faculty of Science, which had been created in 1969. Both the School and the Faculty were dependent on The University of Valladolid. The establishment of Santander as an independent University dates from 1971. Two years later, The Faculty of Medicine was set up, the new Faculty of Science building was inaugurated and The University Colleges of Industrial Engineering, Business Studies, the College of Mining Engineering in Torrelavega and The Teacher Training School were incorporated.

Type of housing: With a family
Arranged by: Home university
If returning, I would choose: With a family
Why? I feel I would interact so much more with people if I was able to consistently come home to native language speakers in their own environment. A better view of culture through family life is preferable as well.
Personal comments:
I was very pleased with my housing situation amoungst a Spanish family. Many other international students found themselves living in lesser conditions in various apartments throughout the city, which made me appreciate my situation very much. Why? The Universidad de Cantabria organised a flat for myself and 2 friends from university in England acroass the road from university
Personal comments:
Very good how they organised our flat, we didnt find out until the day before we went but everything was fine. Any problems we had at the start understanding our land lady was fine as the university helped us with understanding and translation. Excellent! Why? It was cost effective while at the same time a good opportunity to interact with spainish citizens... Living with a host family Isn´t the only option to live with native speakers.
Personal comments:
It really depends more on what you find for yourself, there are many options and you have to just decide what you are looking for. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Why? I would prefer to live with spanish students . Better to learn the language
Personal comments:
They have an international office which should help you to find an appartment. -You end up with searching on your own because they put you in an appartment with other erasmus that don´t speak spanish as well This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Why? For being independent
Personal comments:
There's no need in asking University help, since there is plenty of free rooms and flats. It's not expensive, but the monthly rate of houses near the sea increases a lot from June, provided they let you stay in. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Why? College residences, namely Colegio Juan de la Cosa, are terrible, expensive, and they are far away from the city centre.
Personal comments:
I payed too much. It was a nice apartment, but there were better ones. Do not pay more than 200 euros. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself
