People are very helpful and patient. They appreciate it when you try to speak the language as they are sick of English speaking tourists not having a word of spanish.

Go on the organised trip to the Sierra Nevada in Jan/Feb with the sports department of the Uni. Very cheap, all inc. Great fun!
Nearest beach is salobrena then almunecar. Not beautiful, but beaches nonetheless.

Los Italianos on Gran Via for the best ice cream! Il Gondoliere off Recogidas for award winning pizza. Crepe shop around the corner from Il Gondoliere, yummy!
