If you have the opportunity to make an erasmus exchange, do it. Sometimes it's not easy for everybody but it worth it. We learn a lot about life. And take the advantage of everything (travel (in all the north of Portugal and in the south of course to see beautiful beaches), contacts with local people, ...). Portugal is a good place to make an erasmus exchange because in the university of Fernando Pessoa, we work pretty much. So it's a good balance between fun and work. Read Review

HOUSING
Personal assessment
Cost
KEY:
Couldn't have asked for more.
Pretty good.
Could've been better, but didn't lessen the overall experience.
Disappointing.
Facilities
Location
Cleanliness
Space
Type of housing: a house for all erasmus students of the university
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: a house but not a university house
Why? it was good to be with other erasmus people but they were too much durness in the university house
Personal comments:
it was a very good idea to make a house for all the eramsus of the university because in an experience like this, we need each other. But this one was so special (we had guards, we had time to come back home, we couldn't make any party, sometimes we didn't have water or hot water,...we are not children anymore!).But it was very cheap and in the end, it was a good experience. And I think that they modernize it now.

KEY:
Amazing! Hardly had time to study.
Plenty to do when I had the time.
So-so.
Did not get involved.
Nightlife
Travel
Overall
Describe host city: Students equally interact with the local and student community
Activities, Travel: Takes place mostly outside the university/student environment
Nightlife: Takes place both within and outside of the university/student environment
Personal comments:
The old Porto is very nice to drink sth. You can go near the ocean (Foz da Luz) too. To go out, to go dancing, they is good places in Matosinhos. Porto is a very beautiful city with a lot o monuments or places to visit. You can take a guide book and be a tourist for some days... The cities near Porto are interesting too.

Overall
Personal comments:
No, I think not. I just recommend to the future erasmus students to stay more with the "local" students, it helps. To stay with the erasmus students it's good but to be integrated with all the portugueses students, it's better. I didn't do this. And I regret.

Language of instruction: Portuguese
Was learning Portuguese a key decision factor?
No, it wasn't.
How much did you improve your Portuguese?
My level before: At ease in most situations
My level after: At ease in most situations
Personal comments:
I made a student exchange in Brasil in 98-99. So I was speaking portuguese before to go in Erasmus. I choose Portugal because I didn't need to learn the language before to go there. But it was difficult to understand the teachers and sometimes to understand portuguese people because they have a different accent.
