It was a fantastic experience and if you are debating between Lyon and Paris, I have studied in both cities, trust Lyon is a far better place to study abroad. Read Review

KEY:
Couldn't have asked for more.
Pretty good.
Could've been better, but didn't lessen the overall experience.
Disappointing.
Facilities
Location
Cleanliness
Space
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why? Because the arrangements made by my host university were perfect.
Personal comments:
I was assigned to a studio which I shared with a friend from home university. The building was very close to the "Tramway" and two metro stations. The commute to school was very easy. The atmosphere was great cause there were exchange students from all over the world in our building. It was the perfect enviornment to learn from and bond with people you otherwise might never have met.

STUDENT LIFE
Personal social experience
Activities
KEY:
Amazing! Hardly had time to study.
Plenty to do when I had the time.
So-so.
Did not get involved.
Nightlife
Travel
Overall
Describe host city: Student life dominates the city
Nightlife, Travel: Takes place mostly outside the university/student environment
Activities: Takes place both within and outside of the university/student environment
Personal comments:
Favorite night spot: Black & White. They ad a great mix of music from all over the world including the american pop. Events not to be missed: The festival of lights in Decmber. It is a beautiful celbration with such a rich history behind it. It is kind of like the "Ball drop in NYC" you must do it at least once. The street market in Vieux Lyon on Sunday mornings: The people and the fresh fruits and vegetables are amazing and cheap, plus it is great way to truely interact with the native Lyonaises.

Overall
Language of instruction: English
Local language was: Different than language of instruction.
Was learning English a key decision factor?
No, it wasn't.
Was learning French a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my French
How much did you improve your French?
My level before: Everyday knowledge (shopping, directions, etc.)
My level after: At ease in most situations
Personal comments:
I learned a lot as a result of experience with little conscious effort to do so. Sometimes it was diffcult to communicate to the natives but that was part of the fun.

EXPENSES
The accessibility of student needs
Second-hand text books
KEY:
Very easy.
Minimal effort.
Accessible but required effort.
Almost impossible.
Second-hand household items
Computers / Internet
Administrative
Money from home
Main source of funding:
A private grant
Other sources of funding:
Family
Work opportunities:
I didn't explore any work options
Personal spending habits:
I spent more on most those categories because I simply do not pay for any of those things when I am home. I tend stay home at night and on the weekends, I don't travel, and my parents provide me with housing and food. This experience for me was a great way to do a lot of things that I normally don't do and a great way for me to learn some financial responsibility while asserting my independence.
Food, Travel, Nightlife, Overall, Housing: was more expensive than at home.
Telephone: was less expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
Do not travel to France with travelers checks or buy euros from the US. The best thing to do is to travel with is take cash out using an ATM. You save a lot on the exchange rates that way.
