JJ's, Dolce Zucchero, Salamanca, Astor....pretty much everyplace is amazing and fun. There are so many students from all over the world and that makes it even more fun and exciting.

ACADEMIC
My academic experiences
Quality of courses
KEY:
Fantastic.
Pretty good.
Could've been a bit better.
Disappointing.
Variety of courses
Availability/access to resources
Interaction with teachers
Interaction with other international students
Interaction with local students
Course recommendations:
Talk to local students about the classes and professors. It is a challenge but one you will remember and be proud of forever if you work really hard to get it.

My opinion of the university assessment
Exams at end of course
KEY:
Liked it.
It was alright.
A bit annoying.
Didn't like it.
Exams throughout the course
Essays and/or projects at the end of course.
Essays and/or projects throughout the course

Personal comments:
My university was very outdated. The did not have computers or any kind of special kind of technology. It basically you and the books (which were sometimes over 100 years old), but I fell in love with it. It made studying so much more meaningful and special. It was very different and I loved every minlute of it.

Educational

Overall
Language of instruction: Italian
Was learning Italian a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my Italian
How much did you improve your Italian?
My level before: Did not speak it
My level after: At ease in most situations
Personal comments:
I lived in Florence for about 4 months and was struggling to pick up the language. However, as soon as I was immeresed in a challenging Italian course with Italian students my language skills in Italian to started to fly.

EXPENSES
The accessibility of student needs
Second-hand text books
KEY:
Very easy.
Minimal effort.
Accessible but required effort.
Almost impossible.
Second-hand household items
Computers / Internet
Administrative
Money from home
Main source of funding:
Family
Other sources of funding:
Family
Work opportunities:
I worked during my study abroad experience
Personal spending habits:
Food is cheaper in Italy everywhere you go and it tastes better for the price. Telephones are so expensive because you have to buy pre-paid cards and Americans for sure have trouble at first counting and monitoring the minutes. They end up spending a lot of money at first because we are unsed to unlimited minutes on a plan. Travel was cheaper all over europe. It was amazing.
Telephone: was more expensive than at home.
Nightlife: was the same price as at home.
Food, Travel, Overall, Housing: was less expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
Plan everything (travel) in advance!

OVERALL
Important to choosing this university...
Academic reasons
KEY:
Very Important.
Important.
Not really important.
Unimportant.
Culture
Costs
Activities
Campus life
Party / people
Weather / Location
I wish I had known...
I wish there was more preperation for everything. I didn't expect Italy to be so unorganized, which was very difficult because I come from a very organzied and structured country.
In my opinion:
Everybody loved it, you will too!

During my experience abroad, I ...
Became familiar with another culture
KEY:
Happened all the time.
Happened quite a lot.
Happened a bit.
Didn't happen.
Traveled
Improved language skills
Met people from other countries
Became more independent
Partied a lot
Experienced a change in life
Advanced my studies/career
Personal recommendation:
I went through another university to get into the university of Florence. I didn't have to do any of the work, which was nice because Italian's are very organized and I might have pulled my hair out.
