HOUSING
by Megan, San Diego State University, San Diego, United States
Business Studies, USAC Torino Program
Personal assessment
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why? a lot of freedom to do what i want and good way to meet other students and learn authentic italian way of life
Personal comments:
USAC Torino program helped find the apartment for me and other roommates -- near SAA school where all classes were held , good size, furnished, decent rent price and internet and come utilities included, not bad becuase you control how much utilities you consume and pay...(heat, light, water) This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

STUDENT LIFE

Personal social experience
Describe host city: Students interact with the local community without much university involvement
Nightlife, Travel: Takes place mostly outside the university/student environment Activities: Takes place both within and outside of the university/student environment Personal comments:
Turin is a city with an amazing nightlife. Every night during the week, and even on sundays there is something to do. The Murazzi, by the river, is the heart of Turins nightlife. There are plenty of bars, each one with different music and enviroment, which permit people to chose one or another according to their pleasures. We can find as well a lot of pubs and discos all around the city, from reggae bars to electro clubs This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

My academic experiences
Course recommendations:
You have so much choices!!You can really define your own professional profile. ( for us, courses were recommended by our university)
My opinion of the university assessment
Personal comments:
I someome wants to go in italy for his studies, he has to have good organisationnal skills. Italians call that their "Casino!", a sort of chaos organised. To find what you need, you have to do 2 or 3 differents offices... This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Language difficulties
Language of instruction: Italian
Was learning Italian a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my Italian How much did you improve your Italian?
My level before: Everyday knowledge (shopping, directions, etc.) My level after: No problems in any areas (including slang) Personal comments:
The thing we always have to keep in mind when trying to learn a different language it's not to be afraid to make/say mistakes. It's normal, and the best way to begin to speak it's like this. People with whom we deal with(teachers, students, and other foreigns students) know from the start that we're not fluent and always try to help. I even learn Italian by going shopping and asking the people in the store, how we say things... It's really great and the best way to learn it. EXPENSES

Philology, Erasmus
The accessibility of student needs
Main source of funding:
An ERASMUS grant Other sources of funding:
Family Personal savings Work opportunities:
I worked during my study abroad experience Personal spending habits:
The North of Italy is more expensive than Spain- and I also had expenses that I didn't use to have in Spain, for example travelling. Travel, Nightlife, Overall, Housing: was more expensive than at home. Telephone: was the same price as at home. Food: was less expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
Students can eat at the Mensa, which is really cheap and the food is quite good. If you plan to visit museums, you can buy the Abbonamento Musei: you'll be able to visit about 70 museums in Torino and Piemonte for just 20 Euro. OVERALL

Important to choosing this university...
I wish I had known...
No because i knew a lot of thing before going. Just one detail we didn't think, the Olympic games. When we arrived in October, all flats were bought for the olympics and nobody wanted rent his flat. In my opinion:
Most people loved it.
During my experience abroad, I ...
Personal recommendation:
The Economics University is the second more popular university in Italy. That means you will improve your knowledge with a good staff, known and appreciated by a lot of company in the world (because of their work experience: FIAT, FERRERO, MARTINI...) FINAL COMMENTS
You can't stay without travelling. The country is the beauty itself. All the different region has its own language, own culture and way of life. That's the Brainstorming of the culture because you learn from everybody. And one thing that you can e sure to find in Italy, that's the social life, everyone talks to everyone in the street. Even if it's just to find your way, you will probably stay a while to discuss with your new friend, who is asking what you are doing tonight, and if you want to go with him. You know him just for minutes, but it doesn't matter... This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself
