Was learning German a key decision factor?
No, it wasn't. How much did you improve your German?
My level before: Did not speak it My level after: No problems in any areas (including slang) Personal comments:
When I arrived in Munich I had problems telling the taxi-driver where to take me. This did not last long though - the rest of the international students did not speak English and so German became our lingua franca. My studying linguistics also helped immensly in that I was able to see the similarities between German and English very quickly. By the end of the year I was able to read Die Welt without a dictionary. I found the Germans very helpful and patient in dealing with students who did not have a good understanding of German. it was great as I only spoke German everyday and it improved so much, I began to get way more confident speaking it. Of course my grammar wasn't always perfect but I was still confident. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

It wasn't difficult to communicate with the locals. Most people were very patient and friendly. I often had to explain myself 2-3 times, but people didn't mind the waiting. It was a great learning environment. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

My oral German has improved a lot, but the written side is still lagging behind. Tandem partners are a good idea and an easy way of making new friends. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself
