HOUSING
Personal assessment
Type of housing: C.R.O.U.S.
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why? more quiet and no bugs/ cog roaches
Personal comments:
lots of international students and French speaking Africans, very mixed cultural backgrounds. Rooms were small (9 square meters) and had no kitchen (no fridge) or toilet. Toilets and showers were shared and well maintained, relatively clean. Supermarket on 5 min. walk. University not far away either (10 min. bike). Subway station very nearby. Some rooms (including mine) had nasty cog roaches. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

STUDENT LIFE
Personal social experience
Describe host city: Student life dominates the city
Activities, Nightlife, Travel: Takes place both within and outside of the university/student environment Personal comments:
Festivals: La Louche d'Or (Wazemmes street festival) La fete de la musique (forgot which day/night it was) l'Áéronef (rock concerts) I went to see the White Stripes there when they were just getting known in Europe; cost me about 15 euros This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Language difficulties
Language of instruction: French
Was learning French a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my French How much did you improve your French?
My level before: At ease in most situations My level after: No problems in any areas (including slang) Personal comments:
All courses were in French, you really have to have a good level in French (I studied french language and literature so it's only fair!) This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

EXPENSES
The accessibility of student needs
Main source of funding:
An ERASMUS grant Other sources of funding:
Family Work opportunities:
I didn't want/need to work Personal spending habits:
The rent was very low because of the State's financial support At home I travelled free with my student travelling card, but in France you have to pay. On the other hand,I received a monthly warrant for not travelling at home (I requested that before I parted). Travel: was more expensive than at home. Food, Nightlife, Overall, Telephone: was the same price as at home. Housing: was less expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
You have to open a French bank account in order to receive financial support This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Most people loved it.

Personal recommendation:
Try to get in touch with as much local French students as you can! They're friendly but not always keen on temporary friendships. FINAL COMMENTS
