Personal comments:
The University Paris IV-Sorbonne doesn't help much with the accomodation but fortunately, I had help from the German Bureau for Academic Exchange DAAD who provided all necessary information. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Describe host city: Students equally interact with the local and student community
Nightlife: Takes place mostly within the university/student environment Activities, Travel: Takes place both within and outside of the university/student environment Personal comments:
There are so many! I loved the marais for shopping and wandering, cafes near the Sorbonne are fun because there are lots of students and prices are not too bad. nightlife is so varied I couldn't say anything about it. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

My academic experiences
Course recommendations:
In 3rd year level, you don't have much choice but I strongly recommend to really do all the staff, if only to get to know the local students better.
My opinion of the university assessment
Personal comments:
Compared to University in Germany it was totally different and I learned a lot but it didn't count for my studies in Hamburg. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Language difficulties
Language of instruction: French
Was learning French a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my French How much did you improve your French?
My level before: Everyday knowledge (shopping, directions, etc.) My level after: At ease in most situations Personal comments:
It is difficult to gain a clear and full uunderstanding of the French language. Although I studdied French at my home university I struggled with the spolen French in Paris. I did do much to improve my speaking skills with the combination of the grammar class at the Sorbonne and the constant interaction I had with the my French family. The accessibility of student needs
Main source of funding:
Family Other sources of funding:
None Work opportunities:
I didn't want/need to work Personal spending habits:
I spent more on food and travel because these were opportunities which I do not have in New York. I spent less on the telephone and housing because these are typically cheaper in Paris than in NY. Food, Travel, Overall: was more expensive than at home. Nightlife: was the same price as at home. Telephone, Housing: was less expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
The Lizard Lounge has good drinks specials. Rather potent, too. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Important to choosing this university...
I wish I had known...
I wish I had planned on just staying there permanently to avoid the challenge of now having to find a job abroad after being back in the States for so long. In my opinion:
I loved it but I'm not sure everybody would.
During my experience abroad, I ...
Personal recommendation:
More selection of courses for students already fluent in French! FINAL COMMENTS
This wasn't the only meaningful travel abroad experience that I have undergone. It only happened to be the longest one, but living in France, combined with living in other countries, learning their languages and working on interesting projects has definitely shaped how I view my skills and what I have to contribute to various communities. You can't predict what these skills will be when you are abroad but once you've travelled and taken time out to immerse yourself in another culture, in another set of values, in other kinds of work, you WILL have skills, whether they be simply better coping mechanisms or the ability to translate medical documents in three languages, these skills give you a better understanding of the world.
