HOUSING
Personal assessment
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Independently - My choice
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why? I relish in my independence, especially in new surroundings in which I want to explore freely. I initially lived with a host family upon arriving in Grenoble, but found it difficult to pursue both my goals of extensive travel and integration into the host family's environment.
Personal comments:
I did not live in accommodations provided by the university. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

My academic experiences
Course recommendations:
A wider array for international students would be beneficial. Students studying for the academic year need to have more course options presented to them in order to not be bored with the current repetitive courses.

Language difficulties
Language of instruction: French
Was learning French a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my French How much did you improve your French?
My level before: Everyday knowledge (shopping, directions, etc.) My level after: At ease in most situations Personal comments:
My linguistic experience was somewhat limited, as I chose to travel each weekend, often outside of France. I have no regrets, just that I wish that when I was in France, I would have been even more perseverent in employing and building upon my French language skills. EXPENSES
The accessibility of student needs
Main source of funding:
Government assistance Other sources of funding:
Personal savings Work opportunities:
Personal spending habits:
More on telephone expenses because I used a cell phone and was without a fixed home line. The occasion to speak with friends often is tempting, so the cell phone bill was definitely higher than my normal home phone bill. Accommodation was more, because the private organization I went through simply charged such a rate. Nightlife was more, because I could go out more since school work was not so demanding as at my home university. Travel, Nightlife, Overall, Telephone, Housing: was more expensive than at home. Food: was the same price as at home.

OVERALL
Important to choosing this university...
I wish I had known...
Yes, that it really would not have been necessary to pay a private company to enroll me in school, set up my living arragements, etc. That I could have saved myself thousands and thousands of dollars if I would have gone 'independently'. And largely, the same opportunities as a student would have been open to me as all the other international students. In my opinion:
Most people loved it.
During my experience abroad, I ...
Personal recommendation:
Its setting in the Alps is magnificent and perfect for those enthusiastic about the mountains. The program set up for international students is progressive, yet would benefit from certain additions and modifications. FINAL COMMENTS
What I enjoyed the most were the mountainous surroundings and the centrality of Grenoble. Switzerland, Italy and Spain were great destinations, if even just for a couple of days, being relatively close to Grenoble. High speed trains leave often from Grenoble making it a great starting point for any destination. The experience will perhaps remain unprecedented for much time to come.
