the university itself wasn't up to par as far as instruction, but if you're not as serious about academics as about learning about the italian way of life, siena is an incredible place to study.

siena often gets overlooked when folks travel to italy and therefore it has remained fairly unpopulated by tourists and mostly unaffected by commercialism. please don't miss out on siena's richness in art and history, but please also don't divulge its secrets to those unwilling to understand its uniqueness.

It would be useful to be told about Italy's administration as having to ask around there takes ages- eg to open a post office bank account you need a tax code and how to get it...

Pack light when traveling during the weekends, buy a train pass if you plan on travelling alot, you don't need to bring toiletries with you because they have everything you could want in stores.

Pack light. People told me to pack light prior to going and I thought I did, but I ended up buying a lot of things in Europe and had to ship my other stuff back home.

I highly recommend a smaller class. There were too many students in one class and so, it was not easy to speak a lot.

1. Eat at the school cafeteria, if you want to save moeny. 2. Travel by train to other cities, Italy is beautiful. 3. Speak italian all the times. The local people are very happy to see you speaking their language. 4. I highly recommend a weekend trip to Rome. From Siena, there are frequent shuttle buses. It is about 3 hour ride.

Housing
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Home university
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
I loved having my own place in the city of Siena since it made me feel like I truly lived there. My one roomate was a Università degli Studi di Siena student from Albania who spoke fluent Italian so she helped us feel adapted to the new culture as well.

Personal comments
I loved my apartment. There were 5 girls in 2 rooms and 1 girl in a single, but we rarely faught and had a lot of fun together. I had the most gorgeous view and everything in the apartment worked well. I loved my Albanian/Italian roomate, she helped us with the language and culture more than anything else.
