Language of instruction: German
Was learning German a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my German
How much did you improve your German?
My level before: Everyday knowledge (shopping, directions, etc.)
My level after: At ease in most situations
Personal comments:
I studied German for two years before I studied there. I did not feel at ease in any situation when I arrived. I participated in a month-long language course throughout September that is offered at the University of Konstanz. After this course, I felt confident and really felt integrated into the society a lot more than when I had just arrived. Overall, my language and communication was a huge learning experience. I gained much knowledge about the outside world, as well as another language. It created many new views into my own culture and society as well.

My German improved dramtically in the time I spent at my host university. This was due to a mixture of both self- will and good DAF courses provided by the university.

Germans speak English if you ever get into a problem and are very willing to help. Though it's still hard sometimes doing things in a foreing language, it's all part of the adventure.
