Why? I rather live in the city centre. the Jarratt Hall building was great to party and meet people but it was overpriced with the downside of limited internet service provider Damovo Connect which gave 200mb a day... and people got banned when passing the limited bandwidth. the water was a bit limited sometimes.
Personal comments:
Overall, it was very enjoyable. met a whole bunch of people but the overpriced situation was a bit discouraging.

Why? because you have your freedom and your privacy. I like being independent and have my own space.
Personal comments:
In Birmingham the student houses are normal. The student area is a bit dirty and poor, but it's very closed to the Univeristy and the house are not so bad. . I lived in a student residence and the organization was nice and the place was brand new, so I have had a good experience.

Why? because it would be much cheaper than staying in the university accomodation
Personal comments:
the housing at the uni accomodation is very excellent. meet people of different cultures and races and share a great variety of ideas. However I think the cost is too expensive the universit could do something to lower the cost of the rents and bills.

Why? most 2nd and 3rd year students chose private housing in Selly Oak, which gives it a very studenty atmosphere, plus lots of house parties!
Personal comments:
Accomodation in Halls is alright during your first year, because you meet lots of people. If you need to study, on the other hand, Halls are much too noisy.

Personal comments:
Selly Oak has a great student atmosphere and is very near the university and the pubs. It's also where most of the house-parties are held.

Personal comments:
Places in university residences are quite a few, but they are good quality. But the offer of private sector is good, and is less expensive.

Why? for the contact with other international students
Personal comments:
University accommodations are of good quality but pretty expensive. Private accommodations are much cheaper but can be of very bad quality. If you look for contact with english students, it's better to share a private house than living in unveristy accomodations, which are reserved to international students.

Why? Because you feel free to organize your day after the classes (only 10 hours a week!), and you can share the accommodation with nice foreign students, if you're lucky.
Personal comments:
The accommodations at the University had a bad reputation, people living in were complaining and especially it is too artificial, I think you can't feel at home in this kind of accomodation.
