Course recommendations:
I had veri good teachers and in general the courses where structured differently from my home university where usually I attend also 6 hours for one course a week, while in the university of Essex one course consists of nearly 3 hours for week.I appreciated the closer and less formal relation with the professor in comparison to my university.

Personal comments:
In sum I think that the academic life was well organised. The structure of the courses left more space for student work.In my opinion, when there are good professors, I would have also disposed to attend more hours of a single course. Courses were good, high level, and a lot of personal work for the students, the essays you have to write are not that hard but can be demanding in terms of the research you need to do.

Course recommendations:
Use the website to get a broader picture and more detailed information. The course directory has detailed module information and links to other useful resources, such as previous reading lists (which are generally very similar each year). You can get a really good idea of what to expect from your course and modules by doing this research, which helps you to make decisions and avoid the hassle of changing courses or modules once you've started.

Sometimes the communication between lecturers and administrators within departments seems slightly lacking, causing confusion over classrooms, lecture times and assignments. Course recommendations:
In comparison to German universities, I had a lot more interaction with my lecturers. Additionally the administration staff was always very helpful and friendly and the Psychology Department had countless brand new big-screen Mac's with all time access which helped a lot with all the course work and data entry.

Course recommendations:
Uni Essex is not a top University so it has a so-so selection of courses available. It is easy to meet other international students because they comprise 40% of the student body.

University of Essex offers a boring and limited lifestyle which can become dull within the first three weeks of school. After that you end up wishing you had gone to a larger school with more interesting, intellectual people, a more varied social life and better entertainment options. Humanities courses have linear exams, and having exams halfway through the year or at the end of Autumn Term half-modules would be better. Essay questions were interesting and marked within 3 weeks. All teachers offer office hours and encourage feedback on lessons. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself
