I wish I had known...
I have been lucky because I came here during the summer to have a look before moving to study. It is important to know if you live on campus or off campus because then in the second case the option of having a car is fundamental! In my opinion:
Most people loved it.
During my experience abroad, I ...
Personal recommendation:
It is a wonderful place for an Erasmus experience because there is plenty of opportunities to have fun and develop new activities and interests. If you come for academic reasons then of course it depends on the quality of the specific department you are applying for! FINAL COMMENTS
The study rhythm is very intensive and demanding, expecially postgraduate. Social life is very good as well, so overall it is a place I would recommend. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Personal recommendation:
Excellent in my field of study, I don't know about other fields. Cosy, "contained" campus FINAL COMMENTS
On your first trip to your university, plan to ariive in the country in the morning, on a working day, so that you have a lot of time to get to the university, find your accomodation and settle. Take as little as possible with you, and arrange to buy all the staff that you need after you settle, if you can afford it, or have it sent to you. The most frustrating experience is to try to get to a strange place, in the middle of the night (it gets dark early there in the automn and winter), carrying heavy bags and trying to find a university officer to show you to your room. Try and speak to a current student before you come to get an idea of what the university is like. I was worried about coming, and needn't have. In my opinion:
Most people loved it.

Personal recommendation:
Campus is quite small, which can become a bit of a bubble and may not suit everyone. But the advantage of being at a campus university is that there is a real sense of community, and you make friends very quickly and easily, which was important to me. Quality of teaching and courses varies between departments, but there are plenty of opportunities to get involved and meet other students, and resources are plentiful. FINAL COMMENTS
University is what you make of it. There are plenty of opportunities available, and the more of these you take up, the more things you do, and the more you get involve with, the more you will get out of your time here. Be open to getting to know lots of people, throw yourself into your studies, and you will have a great time :) This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

This is a very nice University. Highly recommended. However, do not bother about the architecture. The buildings are quite bad but not the accommodation. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Pack warm clothes and don't be afraid to try new things. FINAL COMMENTS
The university has a very helpful community and very diverse. You will have oppotunities to try new sports and start new projects. I found it very easy to commute, Colchester is located an hour away from London by train and much closer to other town. I personally really enjoy the nice green environment and the country side walks. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

I wish to have planned in advance the possibility to stay the whole year and not just for a semester. In my opinion:

Personal recommendation:
There are many aspects I recommend about this university like the good level of teaching, the geographical location and the weather itself was not rainy as expected, but most of all the human experience and the opportunity to live and study with foreign students which I think is one of the main aspect I appreciated and from which I learned new culture and a more open attitude of my character in general. FINAL COMMENTS
For havinf helpuful advice before arriving, I found extremely kind and disposable the university office in charge with the relation with foreigh students. Then for arraging travel and activities in the university there are travel agency and student organisations that help you. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Personal recommendation:
The university has a really good vibe and the teaching is outstanding. Very friendly people (students and teachers and locals), great surrounding area. FINAL COMMENTS
Research! This is a skill you will have developed during your studies - use it! Use it to decide where to go and use it to avoid any surprises once you get to your destination, so you'll know what to expect when you get there and from your overall experience. The internet is the ideal resource for this. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

It might look a bit scary when you first get there as most of the university housing and facilities is built in grey conrete. Don't let you first impression take over, because the people you'll meet will make up for it. FINAL COMMENTS
Make sure you'll get a young person's railcard (and an oyster card for inner London), so you are able to go into London for around £10 (instead of £30). This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Personal recommendation:
great campus life, compare course details with other universities before you go - some courses are very well regarded and others are not very well known which indicates the level of academic teaching FINAL COMMENTS
if going to a university in the UK, compare courses at different universities - most big uni's with campusses will give you a great experinec but not necessarily the academic skills you would have liked to acquire. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Stay away. There are nicer places also inside of the Uk or in Europe or in the world. I was pretty disappointed bec I was much looking forward to study abroad but wish i had spent my time more wisely FINAL COMMENTS
If you actually go there i would advise to join some societies and try to make the most out of it, try to meet rather many people than depending on few, and get the balance right- especially at Essex, more than in other places. I wish I would have known how quickly I would become tired of the University of Essex, which is probably the most boring place on the entire planet. In my opinion:
Stay home.
During my experience abroad, I ...
Personal recommendation:
I pity the people who have to spend an entire 3 years at this University. If I would have this year back I would choose to go elsewhere. FINAL COMMENTS
The only good thing about Essex is that it is close to London. Apart from that, it is substandard in every department. You are not going to be meeting the brightest sparks at this University because it is not a top school. I don't really know what would motivate people to come here, maybe they could not get into any other school. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself
