My favorite place in Colchester would have to be the Art Cafe in Culver Square in town centre. They have delicious cakes and a variety of teas and coffees plus you ge to see nice paintings around you.

Don't miss the castle park. It is beautiful in the summer with lots of activities such as food fairs etc or you can just relax listening to a local orchestra.

Usually we went to have a beer and playing some pool in one of the two pubs that were located inside the campus;in the week-end we went to dance or in the disco inside the campus or in a big one in Colchester.While on sunday evening the university organised movies.What I liked most was that the campus was inside a wonderful park, so you can make long walks as well as play many sports in the open air. Colchester is also one hour from London and in different occasions I went for the week-end or just for a daily visit. About Colchester, it is a lovely town where the main attraction is its castle of roman origins and which is located inside a nice green area.

Students Union Bar on campus and Sub Zero club on campus for good value and a great night. Level Two for brilliant live bands nights. Take 3 do great sandwiches and coffee for when you're on the go and the Blues Bar with salad bar is great for meeting friends during the day. Mondo's do good pizza, and they deliver. Look out for themed nights and big name music acts in Sub Zero.

For those into clubbing, the SU hosts a different-themed ngiht each night of the week, so all music tastes are catered for. There are regular guest DJs and artists who visit the university, and tickets and drinks are usually reasonably priced. For those who prefer a quieter evening out, the 'Arts on 5' programme provides an extensive range of entertainment, from local musicians, drama productions, dance troups, and comedy acts. Most of these performances take place in the Lakeside Theatre. There is also the unique Collection of Latin American Art, and a small on-site gallery, with rotating exhibitions. Colchester itself has several clubs, as well as many bars, pubs, and restaurants. And for those who wish to venture further, trains and coaches to London operate from stops close to the uni. A wide range of activities is on offer, through the SU, Societies, Sports clubs, and individual departments. Departments vary in their provision of extra-curricular events, but many events are student-led.

On campus entertainment is great, there are a number of pubs inside campus, the SU pub, and Mondo, Level 2, plus another small chillout pub up some stairs... plus Mondo and Level 2 become some sort of clubs after 9:00, until 2:00 am, and there is a larger venue like a club which is the Underground, great as well, plus in Colchester there are a number of clubs and pubs and places to go, too much party going on there.

The venues on campus were great, especially the dress up nights in the night club on campus and the alternative music nights in Level 2. I went out in town a few times and the bars there were great, there were more places than I had time to visit. The coctail bars in town were particularly good.

Uni. Essex is a tiny campus about 30 mins from Colchester town center. There is very little to do on campus because it is so tiny and limited. The food is absolutely diabolical, as is the social life in general. You keep running into the same people over and over and over, and you can't do anything without the whole campus knowing about it within a day.

One should rather stick to Colchester instead of campus, if you wanna choose between rabies and cholera
