Personal assessment
Type of housing: With a family
Arranged by: Independently - My choice
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why? I like the space and the contact to apartment-mates, but still having my own room to work in and do private stuff. And it´s cheaper...
Personal comments:
Accommodation in the US is generally more expensive than in Europe, so I had to accept it and deal with it. On-campus facilities are more expensive than those off campus. Living off campus isn´t really a problem though since Champaign has an excellent public transport system. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Why? THE opportunity to meet cool people, other international students, get informed about what's going on etc
Personal comments:
The UIUC offers exchange students the possibility to choose one of their housing facilities, i.e. dorms. I lived in Sherman Hall - a grad hall - which I can highly recommend. In comparision to many undergrad halls, you can be really quiet in your room and the others are more mature than nasty (American) 18-year old freshmen. The location of all dorms is excellent, on campus of course - it took me only 5 minutes to most of my classes. However, dorms are definitely more costly than most appartments, but for one exchange semester it should be worth it! This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Type of housing: On campus
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: On campus
Why? It is easier to live on campus when I am studying, because the price of the room includes utilities and I dont have to make monthly payments, therefore I dont have to worry about those expenses. Besides, the dorm where I was living, was very close from law school, so that make my life there easier.
Personal comments:
The room was small, but there were a lot of international students there, so I had the chance to make good friends. I had my own room but I share the bathroom with other girl, who now is one of my best friends. So my experience in the residence hall was very good. Why? constant exchange with students, many official meetings
Personal comments:
first, I lived in a dorm where every first year student has to live. It was a lot of fun, I got to meet a lot of people outside sports (athletic scholarship). Second year I moved to an apartment. It was better because in the dorm the other girls were younger and not so mature, plus I had a different time management due to daily sports, conditioning and weights This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself
