The only real problems I had was with locals from small places down south, the southern drag took a while to get, but now I get it and can even pass for a local, "let's go down yonder, yaw'll!".

Other sources of funding:

Work opportunities:

Personal spending habits
Less on food and nightlife because it was cheaper, so although I ate and drank well it was not expensive. Phone was not cheap, especially not longdistance. I traveled more than usual, so that got expensive, and when I moved off campus I still paid $100-200 less than at home a month.

I would get a bank account right away, shop at yardsales instead of secondhand shops and compare prices on internet, cable and phonedeals.

Academic
Course recommendations
The general curriculum courses varied in level and interest, but at the School of Journalism and Mass Communication the courses were good, the teachers had a lot to give and since we had small classes we got a lot of guidance.

Main street Chapel Hill has it all, just go off campus and you hit it, it is the first street you get to. There are coffeeshops, bars and restaurants, most of them are good. Bandidos is a good Mexican Place, "He's not here" a nice bar, but there is something for everyone.

Housing
Type of housing: First on campus, then off.
Arranged by: Independently - My choice
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
When I lived oncampus I felt cramped, I shared room with one girl and bath with seven others, so I moved off after only one semester and didn't regret it. But it is better to live oncampus if you don't know many people, you make friends faster.
