HOUSING
by Christian, Wirtschaftsuniversität Wien, Vienna, Austria
Financial Management, Independent
Personal assessment
Cost
KEY:
Couldn't have asked for more.
Pretty good.
Could've been better, but didn't lessen the overall experience.
Disappointing.
Facilities
Location
Cleanliness
Space
Type of housing: On campus
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: On campus
Why? housing costs off campus in town are quite expensive and means long ways to uni.
Personal comments:
it was my first experiance with campus life. it is quite convenient to live on campus because it was cheap and you have all facilities you need for living there. eg. laundry, restaurants,... the size of rooms are quite ok and some of them have even sea view. in the room there is a big locker, a cupboard, a desk, shelves, a bed which is too small (190x70cm) and a chair. rooms have air condition and a van. the only disadvantage is that you have to share the bathroom and toilet with the whole floor.

Plenty to do when I had the time.
So-so.
Did not get involved.
Nightlife
Travel
Overall
Describe host city: Students equally interact with the local and student community
Activities: Takes place mostly within the university/student environment
Nightlife, Travel: Takes place mostly outside the university/student environment
Personal comments:
clubs: the best club in town is the dragon-i; book a table to get in or get to know the guys at the door. wednesday: models-night, friday: house, saturday: special guests. watch out for club-ing on thursdays is ladies night and get a warm up in the carnegies in whanchai first (happy hour on all coctails). ladies night also on wednesdays in whanchai e.g. the venue. fridays at the drop, come early or dress fancy cause usually members only. bars: nice area is lan kwai fong, just go arround you'll find your place. eg. drink at the russian bar at -8degrees celsius! upscale bars are also in hollywood road. check it out! i was not so impressed by the felix bar, they can't even mix a bloody marry. in the kowloon hotel every night there is 2 hours drinking for 98HKD. karaoke: kowloon-tsim shai tsui-knotsford terrace. arround this area. eat: best western restaurants are in soho and arround soho. eg. bocca, spitfire, pizza express,... check also the small restaurants beside lan kwai fong eat at the thai restaurant (elvis is waiting for you!) girls: check out whan chai area and the femwicks. interesting place,.....

ACADEMIC

My academic experiences
Quality of courses
KEY:
Fantastic.
Pretty good.
Could've been a bit better.
Disappointing.
Variety of courses
Availability/access to resources
Interaction with teachers
Interaction with other international students
Interaction with local students
Course recommendations:
make sure that you have some local groupmates, it makes life more easier because they really care about the grades and you get to know their working skills and probably make up some friends. it is very interesting! I got very bad information about the availability of courses bevore I could register for them. When I wanted to register for special courses it turned out that they were beeing held in the other semester. Hopefully this information will improve because I wasted a lot time with the lack of information. Courses are very work intensive, 1 mid-term, 1 final test, group presentations, group projects and several individual papers are too much. all in all I think it was a nice experiance to see how Chinese study and teach.

My opinion of the university assessment
Exams at end of course
KEY:
Liked it.
It was alright.
A bit annoying.
Didn't like it.
Exams throughout the course
Essays and/or projects at the end of course.
Essays and/or projects throughout the course
Overall
Personal comments:
none

How much did you improve your local language?
My level before: At ease in most situations
My level after: No problems in any areas (including slang)
Personal comments:
I had no difficulties to understand the professors. Their English was perfect as they came from America, Ireland and Hong Kong. Communication in every day life was also no problem as all people in HK speak English very well.

OVERALL

Important to choosing this university...
Academic reasons
KEY:
Very Important.
Important.
Not really important.
Unimportant.
Culture
Costs
Activities
Campus life
Party / people
Weather / Location
I wish I had known...
I sould have read the travel guide about Hong Kong to have more information ahead so it takes me more time to get started in the city.
In my opinion:
Everybody loved it, you will too!

During my experience abroad, I ...
Became familiar with another culture
KEY:
Happened all the time.
Happened quite a lot.
Happened a bit.
Didn't happen.
Traveled
Improved language skills
Met people from other countries
Became more independent
Partied a lot
Experienced a change in life
Advanced my studies/career
Personal recommendation:
Go for it! It is a good experiance to study abroad, to get to know a new culture and travelling was the most important thing for me because it simply widens your horizon. The university is the best place for an exchange semester but even better for a MBA program as is ranks number 6 in the world! If I had the opportunity I would choose this university again because nobody can refund you this experiance.

FINAL COMMENTS
