Since trains etc are very expensive in Britain, it is quite useful to get a so-called young person's railcard, costs 18 pounds and is valid for a year, reduction of every price: 1/3 Read Review

Cleanliness

Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Independently - My choice
If returning, I would choose: On campus
Why? If you study at a foreign university for a short period of time, it is much easier to accomodate and to get in touch with other (native) students if you live on campus than far away.
Personal comments:
Since I was not offered the chance to live on campus, I do not know much about living on campus. It seemed to be so much easier and more fun to live there.
