Why? Because you are more independent and you enrich yourself by living with others
Personal comments:
They university had a department which was in charge of helping students. I was help by this department during my first year of stay. However i decided to search my own place through my personal resources

Because renting a house/room is more expensive in England than in Spain. Cost of living is higher.
Food, Overall, Housing: was more expensive than at home.
