If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why? Apartments are not much more expensive than student housing and it would allow me to share it with some friends that I pick. On the other hand I could pick the location.
Personal comments:
Sudent accomodation in Uppsala is very good but some campuses are a bit far. I would avoid living in Polacksbacken for instance. If you are sent there try to discuss it with your coordinator. If you can speak with exchange students who go to your university while you are at theirs you could try to swap rooms, that's the only way you'll get a room in the Nations dorms where there's usually a huge waiting list. The best Nation dorms are the ones of Kalmar, Ostogota, Snerikes and Stockholms.

Why? I had a great experience there. The only minus point was that it was a bit too far from the university and the city centre compare to other campus building. Living on the campus helps you to meet student from other faculties and to better integrate the student life.
Personal comments:
They had arranged everything before you arrive. The only thing is that you have to mention in which location you want to live as the difference between the locations are pretty big. I really appreciate the fact that they mix exchange student and Swedish student in the flat so you can learn more about Sweden and the Swedish culture.

Why? Pretty much the only option available for exchange students, and offers by far the most amazing student life experience.
Personal comments:
There are several student residences around the city to choose from, varying in size and location. I can only speak from my perspective but if you are looking to meet loads of people and experience student life like none other, go for Flogsta. Depsite being the furthest from the city center, Flogsta has made its reputation over the years: 10 buildings of student housing with more than 150 students per building (local and exchange) means it gets wild. Rooftop parties, corridor parties, sauna parties, you name it. While it does get out of hand from time to time, it is generally the best experience you can have in Uppsala, the proximity to other students means you're always meeting new people, and there are always plenty of activities going on. Unless you need an extremely calm working environement, look no further. Facilities are good with washer/dryer machines, bus connections, ICA supermarket, convenience shop and sport center all close by.

Why? I was really happy with what was provided for me, and would see no reason to change it. I loved the corridor atmosphere, the mix of international and local students and the facilities were more than I had hoped.
Personal comments:
The only thing I didn't have and was looking forward to, was my own bathroom. The other hassle was when I managed to lock myself out of my room, and had to wait until the next morning for a locksmith to come and open it for me because of the hours of operation of the student housing desk. Understandable I guess. The best thing about this accommodation was the interaction and social nature of living. I was at Rackarberget, while the majority of students are at Flogsta, but I think there are pros and cons of both. My location was better for a start, but Flogsta maybe better for social reasons. Still, Rackarberget was pretty damn good!

Why? The rooms were big enough and you had your own bathroom. Additinally, the atmosphere at the campus was great because so many students, both exchange as Swedes lived there. You got to meet a lot of people!
Personal comments:
Living n such a big campus was great! You get to meet so many people from different countries. And besides that, the rooms were large and well-furnished and equiped with an own bathroom.

Personal comments:
Everything was perfectly organised: the residence was well-structured and shaped for students. You could have your independence there, but you could also find places for meeting other people. We were required to respect one other's freedom.

Why? The location of my student house at Rackarbergsgatan was excellent. It was only a 10 mins walk from my main study building Ekonomikum. I also had the opportunity to interact with the local Swedish students and also other international students.
Personal comments:
I had the opportunity to live in the student housing area at Rackarbergsgatan. It was great that I have the entire room to myself and there was also kitchen facilities. With only 5 tenants per apartment, I can interact with the others in ease. The only flaw is that I would have to share the toilet and shower room with the rest. But, I couldn't have ask for more!!It was a great experience, plus there was a barbeque pitch and a huge garden just outside my apartment.

It's hard to find a place on your own, but the host university arranges for you. I live in Flogsta, fairly close to town and to school. You've got your own bathroom(which secures your privacy) but you also share a kitchen and TV area with 11 others. You get to meet lots of interesting people. I liked it.

Why? I enjoyed the company of other students and since I am in Sweden I want to meet Swedish people.
Personal comments:
I shared a studentflat at Flogsta with 11 other people, 10 Swedish and 1 Roemanian guy. We shared the kitchen and tv-room, while I had my own room and bathroom. My room gave me the privacy I needed and the bathroom was a real comfortable experience. The room was well isolated which made studying easy. On the other hand you have company by just walking out your room. In short, I was pleased with my accommodation. Note: I did have really nice flatmates but that does not always have to be the case. I was lucky there.

Why? Living on campus allows you to appreciate the full exchange experience. You meet so many people through living on campus, which is one of the most important aspects of any international exchange.
Personal comments:
I had my own room, which was nice because I had privacy when I wanted it, but there was always people around to socialize with too.

Why? The accommodation was fine. There were other people to make friends and facilities don't deserve any particular complaint. The location could have been a little closer to the university, but the distance was not in any way unbearable.
Personal comments:
I was happy with it since in my corridor I met people that still are close friends to me.

Why? I lived in Kantorsgatan and would choose it again as it is nice and quiet compared to flogsta. It's only 30 mins walk away from the city.
Personal comments:
The housing office is pretty good, if you're not happy with your room it's quite simple to ask for a new room which you can get straightaway if it's still in the first couple of weeks.

Why? Living alongside Swedish students was a very enjoyable part of the whole experience.
Personal comments:
Rackabergsgarten accommodation was fairly basic (one room with basin, shared bathroom and kitchen) but was adequate. The corridors housed 5-10 students each and there was much socialising and general frivolity!

Why? It was soooo cheap and I lived much closer to the University than I would have in the student rooms.
Personal comments:
Living in a private home or apartment is not easy for someone to do if you don't already know someone in Uppsala. I was lucky enough to have a friend who had an extra room in her apartment that she owned, so that is why the costs were so low. It was great for me, but not an option for the majority of exchange students going to Uppsala. Take up your exchange program in getting you a student room because finding housing in Uppsala is very difficult.

There's no real problems but if you want to be near the center you'll have to either find a swedish person who wants to sublet his/her apartment or convince your coordinator.

Be aware that Flogsta - one of the on campus locations - is quite a long way from the city centre. Put a preference in for Rackerbergsgatan. This on-campus accommodation is better located.

Why? Because I had a great time there. I was living in a corridor with 12 students more, so I could have a lot of new experience and also the chance to know different cultures pretty well.
Personal comments:
I think was perfect. Exchange students were living at Flogsta (neighbourhood 10 min. from Uppsala centrer). It was very nice riding my bycicle everyday and the landscape around the area. Also was a district with an active night time.
