HOUSING
Personal assessment
Type of housing: On campus
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: On campus
Why? I had a great experience there. The only minus point was that it was a bit too far from the university and the city centre compare to other campus building. Living on the campus helps you to meet student from other faculties and to better integrate the student life.
Personal comments:
They had arranged everything before you arrive. The only thing is that you have to mention in which location you want to live as the difference between the locations are pretty big. I really appreciate the fact that they mix exchange student and Swedish student in the flat so you can learn more about Sweden and the Swedish culture. STUDENT LIFE
Personal social experience
Describe host city: Student life dominates the city
Activities, Nightlife, Travel: Takes place both within and outside of the university/student environment Personal comments:
As this is a university is more than 500 years old there is real student life, we could say that the city centre is the campus as there are university buildings everywhere is the centre. There twelve houses in the centre that belong to student organisation. This house or nations as they are called take care of most of the night life and activities. The only thing I have done besides the organised activities is travelling to east Europe and in Sweden. Travelling could be done at really low cost so recommend doing so. Language difficulties
Language of instruction: English
Local language was: Different than language of instruction.
Was learning English a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my English Was learning Swedish a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my Swedish How much did you improve your English?
My level before: At ease in most situations My level after: No problems in any areas (including slang) How much did you improve your Swedish?
My level before: Did not speak it My level after: Everyday knowledge (shopping, directions, etc.) Personal comments:
I have improved my English as I have planned to and learn the basis of the Swedish. All the Swedes speak so perfectly English that is hard to learn Swedish as they always switch to English if they realise that you are not fluent in Swedish. EXPENSES
The accessibility of student needs
Main source of funding:
Family Other sources of funding:
An ERASMUS grant Work opportunities:
I didn't want/need to work Personal spending habits:
At home, I was living at my parent's place so I had less expense in the housing and the food obviously. The low price for a boat tickets or some plan tickets could make travelling pretty cheap. Switzerland and Sweden have about the same price level but if you come from another country it might different. Food, Housing: was more expensive than at home. Nightlife, Overall, Telephone: was the same price as at home. Travel: was less expensive than at home.
