Personal assessment
Type of housing: On campus
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: On campus
Why? The conditions were excellent, but what was really important- I had the opportunity to live in an astonishingly diverse and outgoing society.
Personal comments:
The conditions that I used to live in were shocking for me- in the positive manner. The campus was really big and modern, while the rooms stood up to the highest standards. I had my own room, with kitchen and bathroom shared with another Erasmus student. Also the location of the campus was satisfying, because it was in the city center, while being just 10 minutes from school by bike. The price on the other hand was really high, as for east-european conditions, but the host university supported us in paying the rent. STUDENT LIFE

Personal social experience
Describe host city: Students equally interact with the local and student community
Activities: Takes place mostly within the university/student environment Travel: Takes place mostly outside the university/student environment Nightlife: Takes place both within and outside of the university/student environment Personal comments:
Crazy Daisy-night club in the center of Horsens.Be sure u have somebody to drive u over here, taxis are way too expensive. If u like walking, thats even better.Takes about 20 by feet. All night life is mainly in downtown, so if u like, u can visit fewer clubs more same night, of course if u have money. Students prefer hose partys more, beer is really cheap, and gooood. ACADEMIC

My academic experiences
Course recommendations:
All students take part in a project in groups of about 3 persons. The project subject can be picked by the students on their own- using all the school resources. This is a grea opportunity to pick any subject that one is interested in. Also the 3D CAD course is one of the most interestig that I've attended in my life. It gave me a huge amount of knowledge about Autodesk Inventor.
My opinion of the university assessment
Personal comments:
While interacting with the diverse Erasmus society, I would also like to interact with the local students- which currently is almost impossible. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Language difficulties
Language of instruction: English
Local language was: Different than language of instruction.
Was learning English a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my English Was learning the local language a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my knowledge How much did you improve your English?
My level before: No problems in any areas (including slang) My level after: No problems in any areas (including slang) How much did you improve your local language?
My level before: Did not speak it My level after: Did not speak it Personal comments:
Although I was not used to speak English before, I was very comfortable with the language because I am used to read and write in English. Almost everyone in Denmark speaks English and well, so it was pretty easy to communicate with everyone. Some friends of mine that almost didn't speak English before ERASMUS improved a lot during their time in Horsens and are now able to use it quite ok. EXPENSES

The accessibility of student needs
Main source of funding:
An ERASMUS grant Other sources of funding:
Family Personal savings A VIA UC grant Work opportunities:
I didn't want/need to work Personal spending habits:
Food and housing is generally much more expensive in Denmark than in Poland. The telephone costs, on the other hand, are lower and allowed me to save some money. As for the nightlife- I used to party most often in the campus area, with other Erasmus students. And in this case, it was possible to lower the spendings. Travel costs were generally low, but I used to travel a lot (even 2-3 abroad trips a month) and that s why I spent more money on travels, than usually Food, Travel, Overall, Housing: was more expensive than at home. Nightlife, Telephone: was the same price as at home.
Personal comments:
The host university used to give out additional grants (about 250 euros) to the students of eastern europe, but they have stopped to do that from September 2010. There are a lot of different shops in the city, and it's good to go shopping to all of them one by one, to buy the cheapest products This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

OVERALL

Important to choosing this university...
I wish I had known...
I wish I was more informed about Denmark and specially Horsens. Horsens a really small city and nothing happens there, but the Erasmus/student life is really good. In my opinion:
Everybody loved it, you will too!
During my experience abroad, I ...
Personal recommendation:
Vitus Bering is a small university but I enjoyed a lot studying there. The relationship between student and teacher is really good. FINAL COMMENTS
I chose Denmark because I wanted to go to a country with a completely diferent culture than Portugal. I succeded on that. I had the opportunity to travel from Portugal to Denmark by car, it was an unforgetable experience. I visited some friends doing Erasmus in big cities like Barcelona and Prague and I realised that studying abroad in a small city and living on Campus is much better because this way you will have a really good relationship with all the other international students. Denmark is a really nice country, I recommend to travel and meet all of it. Be really carefull with your money because Visa Electron cards are not accepted there. I enjoyed it a lot, I recommend Horsens for your Erasmus studies and Scandinavia for good travel trips. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself
