Make up a french bank account - without it you won't get the CAF (french gives you an aid for your room - around 140€). Don't forget to visit Barcelona. Only a three hours trip by bus - its a great city. Don't go alone in the outskirts of Montpellier after 8 in the evening - especially as a girl - could be unconfortable or even dangerous. Read Review

Overall
Language of instruction: French
Was learning French a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my French
How much did you improve your French?
My level before: At ease in most situations
My level after: No problems in any areas (including slang)
Personal comments:
At the beginning we had an intesnive french course for 2 month which was good to start with. All the courses I took were in french so I practiced a lot at school. With the other students i spoke english and german in the first semester, but then, when I got to know more french, spanish and italians, I nearly spoke only french. So the second semester I really improved a lot in french and fluently speak it now.

Personal spending habits:
Housing is generally more expensive in France than it is in Austria. Nightlife for the same reasons - a drink just costs more in France. Concerning travelling; I travelled a lot there (Barcelona, Madrid, a lot of french cities ...) to profit from my stay in the south.
Travel, Nightlife, Overall, Housing: was more expensive than at home.
Food, Telephone: was the same price as at home.

OVERALL
Important to choosing this university...
Academic reasons
KEY:
Very Important.
Important.
Not really important.
Unimportant.
Culture
Costs
Activities
Campus life
Party / people
Weather / Location
I wish I had known...
That France is significantly more expensive than Austria regarding housing. Very difficult to find a room near city center in acceptable prices.
In my opinion:
I loved it but I'm not sure everybody would.

During my experience abroad, I ...
Became familiar with another culture
KEY:
Happened all the time.
Happened quite a lot.
Happened a bit.
Didn't happen.
Traveled
Improved language skills
Met people from other countries
Became more independent
Partied a lot
Experienced a change in life
Advanced my studies/career
Personal recommendation:
Take not all courses if you don't have to. They are interesting and quite difficult. So if you want to profit as a non french you have to concentrate on the courses that are really interesting for you, if not you won't have time to profit from the beach, the city and the nightlife (which is really great) in Montpellier.
