Housing in Germany seemed to be generally more expensive and it being my first time in Europe I wanted to travel more. I spent less on food because there is a wider variety which enabled me to save more. Travel, Overall, Housing: was more expensive than at home. Nightlife, Telephone: was the same price as at home. Food: was less expensive than at home.
Personal comments:

Housing was bloody expensive... Food in the "mensa" (university restaurant) is quite unaffordable, and concerning travel, gas is more expensive than in France. Globally, the living standard in Germany is higher than in France. Food, Travel, Overall, Housing: was more expensive than at home. Nightlife, Telephone: was less expensive than at home.

Financially, search carefully your accomodation with regard to the price. Cost-saving : buying a good Steakbrot supplies your evening food for 4-5 days, a Bratwurst is cheap and keeps you fit!
