Personal assessment
Type of housing: On campus
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: On campus
Why? Because of the fact that I am living in contact with every students from the Institute.
Personal comments:
In the beginning, I felt bad with the cleaningless of rooms, toilets, showers,... but for sure, I was in India ! I needed a few days to adapt myself to this unusual situation of living and then it was just enjoying of the indian way of living ! STUDENT LIFE

Personal social experience
Describe host city: Students interact with the local community without much university involvement
Activities, Nightlife: Takes place mostly within the university/student environment Travel: Takes place mostly outside the university/student environment Personal comments:
As the nightlife in Bangalore is very restricted, Bars are just allowed to open until 11 pm and only some clubs, which are really expensive, have to close at 00:30 at the latest, nightlife is not really good in Bangalore, but there are parties on the campus approximately every 3 weeks. You find some clubs and bars in Bangalore as for example, Nasa, Fushion Club. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

ACADEMIC

My academic experiences
Course recommendations:
Spreadsheet Models for Business Decisions, a really good MS Excel Cours which is quite heavy but extremly interesting and you learn things I could not imagine before to do with Excel, General Commercial Knowledge, a real nice and funny course, the professor is more a comedian than a teacher but a lot of the knowledge lasts a long time, was my favorite, you learn a lot about contract law and other commercial things in common
My opinion of the university assessment
Personal comments:
The time management of the local students is quite strange, they only start working very short time in advance and so you have to accept these habits if you are working in groups with local students, many times group meetings are in the night and you are always expected to be on campus as appointments are fixed very short in advance which is a little bit hard if you want to plan long in advance, also the planning of the university i.e. of dates for exams could be better and longer in advance This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Language difficulties
Language of instruction: English
Was learning English a key decision factor?
No, it wasn't. How much did you improve your English?
My level before: At ease in most situations My level after: At ease in most situations Personal comments:
I used the english language in India. Within the country, not everybody can speak english and furthermore there are a lot of different languages so it was difficult in some situations but finally you always can understand each other. At the university, it was quite difficult at the beginning because of the Indian accent. But, with the time, you become use to it. EXPENSES

The accessibility of student needs
Main source of funding:
An ERASMUS grant Other sources of funding:
Family Personal savings Work opportunities:
I didn't explore any work options Personal spending habits:
The cost of living in India is lower than in switzerland. Therefore, food, housing and nightlife is cheap. I spent egual with the telephone as I mainly use skype to speak with friends and family regardless of being in a country or in anothe one. As for the travel costs, they were more than at home because it was one of my aims to visit and discover this fascinating country. Travel: was more expensive than at home. Telephone: was the same price as at home. Food, Nightlife, Overall, Housing: was less expensive than at home.

OVERALL

Important to choosing this university...
I wish I had known...
I was informed quite well before arriving and you should be informed before coming to India because I think it is not a country for everybody as live outside of the campus can be quite hard and "disturbing" for western minds In my opinion:
I loved it but I'm not sure everybody would.
During my experience abroad, I ...
Personal recommendation:
Do not come with wrong expectations, get informed about India, the culture, the people, the problems of the country, the pollution, if you are interested to learn a lot about yourself and life in underdeveloped countries and you do not only want to stay on campus but experience the real life in a very different country than yours than let's go, but if you like it more to hang around in bars, enjoy your clean and organised environment, find your self sense of humor, and all the things same like at home, than you should better stay in Europe because India is really a difference, I loved it FINAL COMMENTS
get informed, care a lot about injuries because some small wounds can easily be infected, do not wait with illnesses to go to the hospitals which are really well equipped, get informed about vaccinations before you plan to depart because if you have never been to Asia before it can be that you need about EUR 500,-- just for vaccinations, and do not take Malaria Tablets because South India has a very little risk of Malaria so that the sideeffects of the tablets are more dangerouse than the illness itself which can be cured in India quite well, if you do not wait to long, be careful with feaver, go to the hospital not only if you have serious problems, because also small things can get really serious if you wait too long This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself
