HOUSING

Personal assessment
Type of housing: Halls of Residence
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: Halls of Residence
Why? It is convenient and reasonably priced
Personal comments:
The halls of residences are not owned by the university, but by private organisations. They are generally in very good condition, and are very reasonably priced, but tend to differ significantly between one another. I stayed at the international halles, the Julius Raab Heim. It was very well furnished with adequate facilities, but with excellent amenities. There is a cafe and a swimming pool, however this is mainly due to the fact that the halls double as a hotel. Organisation is very beaurocratic and tight, however we found our way round most problems. Tips: To have a glass of Sangria ready if the porter comes to turn the music down. Have parties in the boys kitchens as these do not face on the residents side. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

STUDENT LIFE

Personal social experience
Describe host city:
Activities, Nightlife: Takes place mostly within the university/student environment Travel: Takes place both within and outside of the university/student environment Personal comments:
They best places to go to in Linz would be the student pub, Lui's there is something going on there every night for erasmus students especially. The student home bars were great fun as well but if you ever go to Linz you have to go to the Mensafest!!!! To get a real good beer go to Josefs in the city, you will not regret your beer choice in that bar! There are few niteclubs in Linz but if you want to go clubbing go into the city (20 min by tram from the uni). You are always bound to have a good night with a few friends. If you are Irish and feel a bit homesick why not pay a vist to the Irish pub in the city, there are two Kitty kiernans and the Old Dubliner you will meet a few Irish in there! ACADEMIC

My academic experiences
Course recommendations:
Familiarise yourself with the book early. It looks complicated but is actually quite easy once you know your way around the book. Be aware that some courses in the book may not be running!
My opinion of the university assessment
Personal comments:
Could do with a bit of guidance from a local student as to what to expect from various courses - the book doesn't give much of a description. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Language difficulties
Language of instruction: German
Was learning German a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my German How much did you improve your German?
My level before: Everyday knowledge (shopping, directions, etc.) My level after: At ease in most situations Personal comments:
The language experience in Linz was fairly because I was Irish alot of the erasmus spoke english to be so it was hard to practice my language but as the year went on I became more confident and I spoke more of the language and I wasn't scared to speak it to the local students as well. EXPENSES
by Davie, University of Limerick, Limerick, Ireland
Business Studies, Erasmus
The accessibility of student needs
Main source of funding:
Personal savings Other sources of funding:
Family Personal savings Work opportunities:
I didn't explore any work options Personal spending habits:
I spent less in Austria because the country does not rip you off for many everyday products like Ireland does. Shopping in the Supermarkets like Billa abd Aldi saves you a lot. Telephone: was the same price as at home. Food, Travel, Nightlife, Overall, Housing: was less expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
Yes. Although Austria would be a bot mmore expensive than other European countries, it is still quite cheaper This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Important to choosing this university...
I wish I had known...
I wish I knew that the Atm link with AIB Ireland was not that good, but the surprise element was the good thing about the erasmus because you had to learn how to deal with bad situation fairly quickly. That is half the experience. In my opinion:
Everybody loved it, you will too!
During my experience abroad, I ...
Personal recommendation:
In Linz you will meet alot of diffrent erasmus students from alot of different cultures, this does not necessarly happen in all universitys. The International society (Refi) there was briliant the brought us all together more than once a week and those events they organised were memorable one for me:-) FINAL COMMENTS
Book your flights well in advance and go to a student place to buy them if you can. Don't be scared to ask the conducters on trians for information and please do not forget your medical insurace, you will be there for a year!!! Irish students E111 and E128!! The rest you will pick up on the way. Good luck! This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself
