HOUSING
by gogomonik, Ekonomická Univerzita V Bratislave, Bratislava, Slovakia

Personal assessment
Type of housing: A room exchange
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: A room exchange
Why? I am not so exacting on a place, but there must be a washbasin in a bedroom, energy-like heating, electricity and in the kitchen, which can be shared must be a gas and it should be fully equipd.Shower and toillet should be available.
But this is for short stay, for longer stay I would like to live in a fully equiped flat.
Personal comments:
This room, where I lived was really good from strategic view, it lies close to the city center and buss/train station. Disadvantage was,I had to bring my kitchen staff. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

STUDENT LIFE

Personal social experience
Describe host city: Students equally interact with the local and student community
Activities: Takes place mostly within the university/student environment Nightlife, Travel: Takes place mostly outside the university/student environment Personal comments:
However it's quite difficult to say that one place is better than another because my point of view is subjective. But if you go to nijmegen you have to go there during the festival of the city, otherwise you can go to bascafé for the cocktail's nights, merleyn because of the good music, o'shea's for good beers and exchange students and odessa because of the live jazz bands This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Language difficulties
Language of instruction: English
Local language was: Different than language of instruction.
Was learning English a key decision factor?
No, it wasn't. Was learning the local language a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my knowledge How much did you improve your English?
My level before: No problems in any areas (including slang) My level after: No problems in any areas (including slang) How much did you improve your local language?
My level before: Everyday knowledge (shopping, directions, etc.) My level after: No problems in any areas (including slang) Personal comments:
What I found a bit annoying was, that most foreign students didn´t even try to learn Dutch. A lot of them went to Nijmegen to learn English. University is offering free "social Dutch" courses, but in the first semester only for students who don´t know the language, yet, thus, it wasn´t really interesting for me. Looking forward to the "advanced" class which starts next month. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

The accessibility of student needs
Main source of funding:
Family Other sources of funding:
An ERASMUS grant Work opportunities:
I didn't want/need to work Personal spending habits:
Housing: I used to live at my parent's! Telephone: we all lived in the same area and rather had a bike ride than a phone call!Nightlife: more nightlife when not at parent's house! Food: used to be more expensive than in France (not true anymore because of price war in Dutch supermarkets) Food, Travel, Nightlife, Overall, Housing: was more expensive than at home. Telephone: was less expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
Books are far more expensive than in France (cf. French law on book prices) and not always available in the university libraries! Many computers available at university. Pay attention: in some banks, you need to pay to close your account before the end of the first year after its opening! This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Important to choosing this university...
I wish I had known...
The extent to which English is so widely spoken in the Netherlands. In my opinion:
Everybody loved it, you will too!
During my experience abroad, I ...
Personal recommendation:
KUN has a very international outlook and the Erasmus programme is very well organised, from the introduction programme when you first arrive to the arrangements to have results sent back to your home university. Everyone goes out of their way to help you and the student bodies such as Elsa and the SZG are very helpful and fun. FINAL COMMENTS
I would definately recommend the Erasmus programme to all students and if you are looking to go to a country where you can learn in English the Netherlands and specifically Nijmegen would be an excellent choice. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself
