La Universidad de Murcia tiene sus orígenes más remotos en el siglo XIII. Personal recommendation:
The university is not very big, so you have a nice atmosphere and will get to know people easily. Before starting a course you should take attention that the courses are held in a different way than in other countries.



FINAL COMMENTS

Murcia is a nice town that offers a stay at low expenses. But one should be aware that people from Murcia tend to be quiete conservative. Night life is good and there are many cultural things to see. Have fun!

I was unaware of the free intensive language course for Erasmus students. I would recommend evryone to take part in this as the people that went on this course tended to grasp the language much quicker.

Personal recommendation:
I found that the university was a very friendly place and though at first a little daunting, it was very enjoyable, there were numerous trips and activities taking place and the fiestas were amazing.



FINAL COMMENTS

I did not travel as much as i would have liked but i would certainly recommend the 'Fallas' in Valencia, Alhambra in Granada. Barcelona and Madrid are also must see cities and especially with bus and train tickets being relatively inexpensive. A trick i used when travelling to and from Spain was to load any heavy items into seperate hand luggage and give it to friends or family while i checked in, thus avoiding any excess baggage charges.

Keep notebooks locked. people from sevilla for example are otherwise inclined to steal them.

Do travel around. Don't stay at murcia for more than 6 months. it is a small town and it gets boring after some time. AND: go there during spring / summer because the beach is only 25 minutes away (by car) and the beach is fantastic.

http://www.um.es/ Rooms in shared flats can be found easily at photocopy shops in the center of the town and around the university.

No, not really. Since I had lived a year in Spain earlier, I was familiar with the country and the culture.

Personal recommendation:
Try to make it easier for international students to get to know spanish students. We didn't really follow a class, and we didn't get information on the social arrangements that was arranges at the university. An e-mail with information every week on what was going on would be helpful.



FINAL COMMENTS

The international office is open only a few hours every day, something that is a bit annoying if you are not studying in the center. Arrange for accomodation your self. I stayed at a Hostal the first two weeks, and used the local newspaper, to find an appartment.

I will always look back on this as one of the best experiences of my life! Without a doubt I would recommend Murcia to any student wanting to experience the typical Erasmus life!



FINAL COMMENTS

Much cheaper place to study than larger, more well-known cities. Lots to do and see in Murcia and the surrounding region. Good transport links to Andalucia, Valencia etc. Good Erasmus Student Network (ESN) which arranges trips throughout the year for Erasmus students. Great nightlife!

Great student atmosphere, beaches are not far away. Everyone's extremely friendly and fantastic social life, lots of fiestas throughout the year and great weather in the summer!

Except Law and Letras, all faculties are outside of town, 20 min. by bus from centre.

It´s a cool town, but not for longer then 6 months. The nightlife and the weather are great, but if u can I´d go for a bigger city.

it is a good university because it offers a variety of courses although they have to do more courses for spanish

If you attend regularly the classes, teachers will helpl you to pass the exams



FINAL COMMENTS

Murcia is a nice town, and the people are mostly very friendly but a bit racist, especially with people from North Africa. It is a good place to start travels in Andalousia, and it is really worth going there (Granada, Sevilla). Concerning the academic aspects, the courses wre interesting and accesssible. Do not hesitate to ask the teachers to help you, they will if you are motivated
