The cost of living in Mexico is obviously much lower than in the UK, so food, accomodation and nightlife were significantly cheaper. I spent very little on the telephone as I stayed in contact with people at home by free email at the university. My major expense was travel, as I went away most weekends and travelled for a few months after my classes had finished. Overall, I think I probably spent more or less the same as I would in a semester at Nottingham. Travel: was more expensive than at home. Overall: was the same price as at home. Food, Nightlife, Telephone, Housing: was less expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
Don't be afraid to spend some time looking for accommodation, as the money you spend on a cheap hotel for a few weeks can often be saved back just on your first month's rent if you take your time to find somewhere that's good value. Always take your student card with you when you travel, as you can sometimes get discounts on long journeys. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

due to lower income, almost everything is cheaper compared to European prices. Buying local food products is definetely cheaper than buying the brand (if available at all) that you are used from home. Housing depends on your choice of living, sharing an apartment can be cheapier, but a dorm or the family option is much easier and more safe (burglary!) Travelling by bus is quite cheap. There are hardy any train stations, but first class buses (very high standard) will bring you to almost every destination in Mexico. When you are lucky you can even get a cheap flight within the country. Nightlife, Overall, Telephone, Housing: was the same price as at home. Food, Travel: was less expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
mobile phones are easy to get and cheap. at some point you will need a mobile when there is no telephone around available This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Most things in Mexico is cheaper than in Australia. However as I tended to do more of everythng I may have spent more or equal to what I do at home. Travel, Telephone: was more expensive than at home. Nightlife, Overall: was the same price as at home. Food, Housing: was less expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
The suprise for me is that you can do a lot more for a lot less. To save money you would do the obvious things, eat at home rather than out, buy beer instead of pina coladas and say no to buying a sixth silver ring or mexican rug!
