I wish I had known...
There was a language course in September just before the university courses started which would have proved very helpful but I wasn't aware of it's existence.

Generally there's good internet access anywhere you go here and a good way of meeting people is by joining societies. A good one is the rowing society which is really friendly.

There's the student association club which is open every night and a favourite spot of mine is a bar under the English bar - they serve some amazing caipirinha. Another nice hangout is the Jazz bar - no jazz to be heard but a really nice a relaxed atmosphere. There is a cafe called the Basking Robins that serves the most amazing hot chocolate in the world!

Generally housing is quite poor in Coimbra, althougth I managed to find a nice flat. my landlady was really sweet and came to check on us every week to make sure we didn't need anything.
