Universitą degli Studi di Milano, Livorno 1, 20122 Milano, Italy
4.04 / 5 based on 60 reviews.
Description:
Founded in 1924, the main building of the University of Milan is the fifteenth-century "Spedale dei Poveri" (Hospital of the Poor).

Building began in April 1456, and finished in the nineteenth century, thanks to donations and legacies from various Milanese dignataries, who thought it right and dutiful to contribute to the completion and upkeep of the hospital, also called "la Ca' Granda".

In the academic year 1999/2000, the University of Milan established agreements on student mobility with about 300 European Universities.

KEY:
Couldn't have asked for more.
Pretty good.
Could've been better, but didn't lessen the overall experience.
Disappointing.

Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Independently - My choice
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why? If I was to go back I would choose an apartment again because I like to have my space, calm place with not so many people inside and I like to manage all necessary things in the apartment.
Personal comments:
Firs six month I lived in a dormitory. It was clean, new, safe and it had all necessary facilities. I was very satisfy. Next year I lived in a private apartment because I needed to have my own space for studying, that was the only reason why I left dormitory.

Personal social experience

KEY:
Amazing! Hardly had time to study.
Plenty to do when I had the time.
So-so.
Did not get involved.
Nightlife
Travel
Overall
Describe host city: Students equally interact with the local and student community
Activities, Travel: Takes place mostly within the university/student environment
Nightlife: Takes place both within and outside of the university/student environment
Personal comments:
I can't say that I have only one favorite night spot. I loved to go to Brera, to Navigli, to Arco della Pace. But one of the place I really liked to go was Bar Basso, with typical old man waiters and old furniture. The best caffč in Milan is easy to take everywhere, but as I said, I liked to visit typical old style places. A place where everybody has to see is Duomo, Castello Sforzesco with Parco Sempione, Brera, Navigli, Galleria Vittorio Emanuele, museum of 900. The events that is the most beautiful is Fuori salone mobile in Via Tortona. For me Milan is a beautiful city that gives a person everything that is looking for.

Personal comments:
When you come from Germany you may have done a lot more already than students which are in the same year than you. You have to fight a little to get the work that challanges you.

Overall
Language of instruction: Italian
Was learning Italian a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my Italian
How much did you improve your Italian?
My level before: Did not speak it
My level after: At ease in most situations
Personal comments:
In my opinion it kind of helped me in more than one language, once i lived in a residence and in the beggining only few of them would speak italian. I got my english more fluent and i've become quite familiar with the italian and also with spanish, although i tried not to speak because i'd confuse it a lot with italian.
