Université de Franche-Comté (UFC)
Université de Franche-Comté, 1, rue Claude Goudimel, 25030 Besançon, France
Description:
As early as 1423, the high reputation of the University of Franche-Comté was enough to attract famous teachers and students. Originally located in Dole, the University serving both the Duchy and the County of Burgundy. It was transferred to Besançon in 1691 by the King of France, Louis XIV. It was closed down during the French Revolution in 1793, but Emperor Napoleon re-opened it in 1809.

Personal recommendation:
I do not have a special recommendation. Everybody experiences an exchange in a different way and you cannot satisfy everybody. So this university did his bst for the international studnets. FINAL COMMENTS
France is a beautiful country, you really have to see it. There are good facilities for students to travel, e.g. discounts, hostel information etc. And you have to realise that you are lucky you can do an exchange, you have to profit of it, you learn a lot of a country and yourself and you will never forget it, and sometimes you make friends for life. The town is big enough to keep you entertained for a year, the french people are on the whole very welcoming and we had a great erasmus equipe of about 100 people. FINAL COMMENTS
Living in town you don't need a car, but to explore the region (which is stunning) you do need your own transport. However for longer journeys the trains are very good- especially if you book well enough in advance to get 50% discount. My main advice would be to remember that you're not the most important group of people at university in terms of enrolement and timetabling. Just be aware of what's going on and try to find a french student to help you out after they've sorted themselves out. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

I wish I had known...
I wish I would have been prepared about my language skills, and about the way the French Academic system worked. I also wish I would have researched the town a bit more, and the weather in the town. But I'm not disappointed, in fact I feel lucky. I basically pointed and chose a place on the map because I was too uneducated about the regions in France. Besancon is great and the people are friendly. In my opinion:
Everybody loved it, you will too!
During my experience abroad, I ...
Personal recommendation:
You should go, but don't expect a super organized student friendly university environment with professors who have office hours. it doesn't work like that, and the building is always under construction. FINAL COMMENTS
Besac is almost in the center of Europe. Travel, but take time to really explore the area around the Besancon hills. There are tons of great hikes and places to explore. La Chapelle de Buis, les forts, la citadelle and all of the different pathways to the top, Battant, etc. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

GET IN TOUCH WITH YOUR COORDINATORS IN THE HOST COUNTRY WELL IN ADVANCE. BE PREPARED TO FIND OUT ALOT OF INFO (COURSES, BANKS, ASSESSMENTS) BY YOUR SELF. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

I wish I had known...
actually I knew that I would ave been placed in a very dangerous and uncomfortable place, but if I only I had known it in june and not in september, maybe I would have found a flat near the university and I would have gone out more frequently... In my opinion:
Stay home.
During my experience abroad, I ...
Personal recommendation:
find a flat or another place to stay youself: the CROUS who find the apartments for the international student is not good at all... FINAL COMMENTS
I'm very sorry that the problem of accomodation has conditioned the whole experience; because of the horrible location of my flat, I haven't had the opportunity of living completely my erasmus experience... This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Don't stress too much over tests- especially when there is only one or two; it just messes you up. Use the library and all of its resources. FINAL COMMENTS
If someone gets frustrated and gives up on you because of the language barrier, keep trying. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself
