Personal assessment
Cost
KEY:
Couldn't have asked for more.
Pretty good.
Could've been better, but didn't lessen the overall experience.
Disappointing.
Facilities
Location
Cleanliness
Space
Type of housing: On campus
Arranged by: Independently - My choice
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why? I would like to have flatmates, it could permit me to have more various social life, of course an apartment should be situated in the center of the city it gives more opportunities to make life more easy and happy
Personal comments:
I was happy to have my own room but i was disappointed that there was no place to meet with other students, even it could be simple for example a kitchen to prepare meals together, there was no place to organise any events (like birthday or barbeque)there was always problems with noise and security,on the campus there were students restaurants opened for lunch and for dinner but nothing more...oh maybe i forgot about one automatic shop:)One of advantage to live there it was this that university was very close concerning lacation of campus-by metro it was 15 minutes from the center of city.

Overall
Describe host city: Student life dominates the city
Activities: Takes place mostly within the university/student environment
Travel: Takes place mostly outside the university/student environment
Nightlife: Takes place both within and outside of the university/student environment
Personal comments:
As I said, the last metro was leaving the town at midnight,so if we wanted to stay out later,we had to wait until the morning or take the taxi, which is pretty expensive in France. However,I liked the bars at the rue Solferino, but after so much time I forgot their names.Anyway, each visit I had from my home country,I took to the bakery PAUL at Grande Place.

It was alright.
A bit annoying.
Didn't like it.

yes for example some of teachers should give more policopies with prepared cours (notes) and they shoul make only explication of it,it was annoying to make note everything fast during 4 hours of cours!!

Overall
Language of instruction: French
Was learning French a key decision factor?
No, it wasn't.
How much did you improve your French?
My level before: At ease in most situations
My level after: No problems in any areas (including slang)
Personal comments:
Seeing things retrospectively, everything was great. Still, any beginning is difficult, especially when you are in a foreign country and you are faced with new, different behaviors. Thus, although my knowledge of French language was significant, the first days spent in Lille seemed everlasting. This tendency would become even more obvious when communicating with native speakers of French, so with people that couldn't possibly understand your uneasiness in expressing yourself in their language. But, as I was living on a campus, with students from all over Europe, the uneasiness had soon melted away; the desire to communicate and friendship tied us more closely than the language barrier could ever separate us. Consequently, I soon started to act naturally in any situation, to be myself, both in communicating with teachers and administrative staff, as well as with friends and other students.

EXPENSES

The accessibility of student needs
Second-hand text books
KEY:
Very easy.
Minimal effort.
Accessible but required effort.
Almost impossible.
Second-hand household items
Computers / Internet
Administrative
Money from home
Main source of funding:
An ERASMUS grant
Other sources of funding:
Personal savings
An ERASMUS grant
Work opportunities:
It was not legal for me to work
Personal spending habits:
The amounts I spent while living in Lille were overall higher than my normal spedings at home. The causes for such a difference in the expenditure level were either the difference between the standards of living (for accommodation, the rent being more expensive than in Romania) or the fact that I've travelled more than I usually do in my own country. During my staying in France, I had a great chance to visit new places, both in France and the neighboring countries.
Travel, Overall, Telephone, Housing: was more expensive than at home.
Food, Nightlife: was the same price as at home.
Personal comments:
Fortunately, no negative surprises. And, due to the small amount granted under the Tempus scholarship, no pleasant surprises either; still, the food is very cheap, the libraries are full of good books and you can have fun even by not spending too much.
