HOUSING
by Jeremy, University of Virginia, Charlottesville, United States
Language, Study Abroad through the University of Virginia
Personal assessment
Type of housing: With a family
Arranged by: Home university
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why? Although I thoroughly enjoyed living with a host family, I would like the experience of living with natives closer to my age.
Personal comments:
I was very pleased with the accomodations both UVA and the Universitat de Valencia made for us. At times, they did too much! The program tailors itself to your needs. If you are looking to get out and meet native speakers, then you have that opportunity; and if you are looking to hang out with Americans and just enjoy the study abroad experience, then you can do that too. However, if you are going to go that far to simply hang out with Americans, then you will not learn nearly as much! This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Independently - My choice
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why? More independence/freedom. Also, it would be better if friends or family came to visit.
Personal comments:
The university normally sets up international students with homestays, but I chose to find housing on my own. Most of the other students were very happy with there homestay families, and if one wasn't happy with their situation, the university was very understanding about it and would work with him or her and switch them to a different home if need be. HOUSING
by Ciara, Dublin City University, Dublin, Ireland
Marketing and Sales Management, Erasmus
Personal assessment
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Independently - I had no other choice
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why? I have lived away from home since I was eighteen and am quite independent so I would find it difficult to live in a family home, for example.
Personal comments:
The university had nothing to do with my accomodation and did not help me in finding it. That is understandable on my part as I wouldn't expect help in finiding an apartment in Ireland so why should the rules be changed when I go abroad? Type of housing: Apartment/House

If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why? a shared apartment is the best way of getting in touch with people; it's economical and it's just sooooo tight!!!
Personal comments:
the best is to rent a flat. You get the best deal. There are plenty of flats available and students from all over "la Comunidad" are sharing apartments. so you'll get in touch with lots of local people really easily. university housing in spain is really expensive This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Why? Sharing a students-apartment I lived together with other young people including native spanish speakers. It`s was the best way to know a lot of people and to improve my spanish.
Personal comments:
I had no accommodation at the University. Generally the "collegio mayor" are more expensive than normal apartments. And there are a lot, so it´s not hard to find one. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Why? to share a flat with other students is a great opportunity to practise the language, to get to know different cultures, to broaden the horizon and to make friends

It's not difficult to find a room in a flat of students, it approximatly take a week of search. It pays to inspect and compare different flats. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

HOUSING

Personal assessment
Type of housing: On campus
Arranged by: Home university
If returning, I would choose: With a family
Why? Because living so close to other English speaking students made it hard to immerse yourself in with the Spanish speakers. Also I imagine that living with a family could have exposed me to more authentic (and healthy) spanish food.
