STS Internship Program, Belgium

The Strategic Student Program's STS Internship Program provides real-world engineering experience to students with an interest in simulation software, testing systems, and customer applications.
Project domains may include:
* System dynamics, Structural integrity, Flow and thermal analysis, Control systems, Reliability, Acoustics, and Energy efficiency
These internships are designed to align with the academic programs of leading technical universities in Belgium and across the European Union.
Interns receive the opportunity to contribute to innovation projects and gain practical experience using advanced simulation and testing technologies.
Upon completion of the internship, participants join the Siemens Software Early Careers network, increasing their visibility for future global graduate and associate-level opportunities.

2026B Registration Period

The 2026B registration cycle runs from August 2026 through April 2027.
During this period, Siemens Digital Industries Software will review registered profiles and match suitable candidates with internship projects as opportunities become available.
Candidates may be contacted at any point during the registration period if their academic background, skills, interests, and availability align with an available project.

Internship Starting Cycles

The STS Internship Program generally offers two main starting periods each year:
* Late August to early October
* Late February to early April
These starting periods are designed to align with academic calendars across the European Union and support effective integration into ongoing projects.

Internship Modalities

Internships take place through Siemens facilities in Leuven, Belgium, and may be offered in the following formats:
* Industrial internship: 3-6 months
* Master's thesis research project: 6-9 months
* Summer internship: 1-3 months
The exact duration and format depend on the academic requirements of the student, the university agreement, and the needs of the assigned project.

Typical Candidate Profiles

Candidates typically come from Master's programs in areas such as: Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Robotics, Physics, and Mathematics

Applicant Requirements

Applicants must meet the following requirements:
* Be enrolled in a Master's program at an EU university throughout the internship period
* Be a Belgian or EU/EEA national, or already hold a valid Belgian international student residence permit
* Have a strong command of written and spoken English
* Demonstrate an interest in simulation technologies, particularly Siemens Simcenter
* Complete Siemens' standard background check for export-control compliance
* Include a motivation letter as a page within the CV
* Upload the CV and motivation letter in PDF

Internship Agreement

Siemens Software normally issues its own internship agreement. The agreement must be reviewed and approved by the intern's university before the internship can begin.
An exception applies to KU Leuven, which uses its own agreement process due to the formal cooperation agreement established between Siemens Software and the university.

Eligibility and Permit Requirements for Belgium

Internships in Belgium are open to:
* Belgian nationals
* EU/EEA nationals
* International students who already hold a valid Belgian international student residence permit
International students holding a residence permit issued by another EU or EEA country are not eligible unless they also hold the appropriate Belgian authorization.
A residence permit issued by another EU or EEA country does not automatically grant the right to undertake an internship in Belgium.
Due to administrative constraints, Siemens Software cannot provide support for obtaining or converting a Belgian residence permit for the purpose of this internship.

Compensation & Internship Arrangements

Internship arrangements in Belgium are structured in accordance with local legal and market practices and are communicated transparently in line with Siemens' pay-transparency principles and applicable European requirements.
This internship is an academic internship and does not constitute standard employment. As such, the internship is typically unpaid.
However, interns may be eligible to receive certain allowances or practical support in accordance with Belgian regulations, university requirements, local practice, and the individual internship arrangement.
As this is not a salaried employment relationship, no employee salary or standard employee benefits will apply.
Any applicable allowance or support will be communicated clearly to the candidate before the internship agreement is finalized.

Important Information About the STS Internship Program

This is a talent-pool opportunity and not a direct application to one specific internship role.
Siemens Digital Industries Software creates internship vacancies based on:
* Registered candidate profiles
* Academic backgrounds
* Candidate availability
* Upcoming project requirements
* Business and team needs
Candidates will be contacted when their profile aligns with an available opportunity, unless they have already been pre-selected by Siemens or a partner university.
Siemens reserves the right to close registration before April 2027 if a sufficient number of suitable profiles has been received.
Registration does not guarantee selection for an internship.

Benefits of the Program

Depending on the internship arrangement and individual circumstances, selected candidates may receive access to the following support and opportunities:
* Accommodation assistance, provided or facilitated on a case-by-case basis for candidates coming from another EU country
* Support for Erasmus+ or other mobility scholarships
* Official documentation to support university-approved mobility grants or funding applications
* Hands-on experience with industry-relevant simulation and testing projects
* Visibility within the Siemens Software Early Careers network
* Flexible internship formats aligned with academic objectives
* Opportunities to complete thesis research or summer placements
* Exposure to international engineering teams
* Experience within a world-class innovation environment
