HOUSING

Personal assessment
Type of housing: University Hall
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: Where I am
Why? Although there was a lack of cooking facilities in the hall I was in, the overall atmosphere of the area was superb. Also, the location next to all other students helped a lot.
Personal comments:
In general, the accomodation is very good, especially on the Studentensiedlung am Seepark, where most students live. However, there are a few things, such as the lack of good cooking facilities in Europa Haus (the hall resserved for foreign students, which could be improved. Overall, very good. STUDENT LIFE

Personal social experience
Describe host city: Students equally interact with the local and student community
Activities, Travel: Takes place mostly outside the university/student environment Nightlife: Takes place both within and outside of the university/student environment Personal comments:
Aspect was the best cafe. It is located kiddy corner to the university. It is a great place to have coffee, but you definately have to have their baguettes! Their great. The best night club is Kagan. It is on the 17th floor of a building right near the Hauptbahnhof. You have to check it out! Thursday's are student night, so the cover charge was minimal, but otherwise it is pretty spendy. My academic experiences
Course recommendations:
You are in control of your academic destiny at German universities so be prepared for the independence! No deadlines
My opinion of the university assessment
Personal comments:
Although there is your independence and lack of deadlines- don't make the mistake of putting things off till the last minute_ The papers are a bear and do require more time than average American student standards! This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Language difficulties
Language of instruction: German
Was learning German a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my German How much did you improve your German?
My level before: At ease in most situations My level after: At ease in most situations Personal comments:
As a very touristy town, the Freiburgers tend to be a bit hasty in speaking english, even if their standard is not as good as your german. Once people realise however, that you are here for a while, they are very helpful, and either slow down their speech, or simply rephrase the sentence, instead of taking you for a tourist. The accessibility of student needs
Main source of funding:
Family Other sources of funding:
Personal savings work abroad Work opportunities:
I worked during my study abroad experience Personal spending habits:
the phone bill was particularly expensive, as I was calling trans-atlantic all year to keep in touch with friends and family. Telephone: was more expensive than at home. Food, Travel, Nightlife, Overall: was the same price as at home. Housing: was less expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
find out what the program will provide you with. The UMASS program provided bedding and most of the kitchens were all stocked. Freiburg has many fairs and fleemarkets during spring and fall, which are good sources of 'stuff' for your place. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

OVERALL
by Tomás, Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Madrid, Spain
Law, Erasmus
Important to choosing this university...
I wish I had known...
I should have gone and stayed there two years instead of one. I had the chance to go there my fourth and fifth year of my law degree and I went there only for the fifth year. In my opinion:
Most people loved it.
During my experience abroad, I ...
Personal recommendation:
It is a very good university to study law -the best of Germany-, you can take specialised courses which are really affordable at the Studentenwerk and the relationship between students and teachers is really good. FINAL COMMENTS
Find a housing quick. The town is small and it receaves every year many students. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself
