Austria is an interesting mixture of west and east and the culture is a conbination of this. The people are really nice and the dialects cute(don´t be disappointed if you don´t understand them all, the most Austrians don´t either!). With a little effort you´ll find all the information needed from the host university and the welcome guide was really good: read it carefully and you don´t have anything to worry about!!! Read Review

Was learning German a key decision factor?
No, it wasn't.

EXPENSES
The accessibility of student needs
Second-hand text books
KEY:
Very easy.
Minimal effort.
Accessible but required effort.
Almost impossible.
Second-hand household items
Computers / Internet
Administrative
Money from home
Main source of funding:
An ERASMUS grant
Other sources of funding:
A private grant
Work opportunities:
I worked during my study abroad experience
Personal spending habits:
My telephone bill was bigger, because I still had the finnish net and I paid for the calls of my family. Travelling was a must, because Austria is so centrally located and it was easy to travel everywhere. Food is cheaper in Austria than in Finland and my accommodation also. So, overall the costs were less than in Finland.
Travel, Telephone: was more expensive than at home.
Nightlife: was the same price as at home.
Food, Overall, Housing: was less expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
A surprise was that I spent less money than I thought I would. My cost saving tip is that on grocery stores buy the local brands: they are as good as the others and always cheaper.
