Personal assessment
Cost
KEY:
Couldn't have asked for more.
Pretty good.
Could've been better, but didn't lessen the overall experience.
Disappointing.
Facilities
Location
Cleanliness
Space
Type of housing: A room exchange
Arranged by: Independently - My choice
If returning, I would choose: On campus
Why? Because I would have more interaction with people of the country and because there would be more people and it often means more activities. Also, it ussually means close to the University and there are the libreries which are very important as a student.
Personal comments:
It was fine. I cannor complain. I simply think it would have been a little better to live at the Campus.

Overall
Describe host city: Student life dominates the city
Activities: Takes place mostly within the university/student environment
Nightlife, Travel: Takes place both within and outside of the university/student environment
Personal comments:
Huptstrasse Heidelber is a very well know place whre you can simply walk around and go and have some drinks with friends. I used to go to a restaurant "Los Amigos" whcih was a good one and where you could dance Latin music. In Heidelberg you have to visit the Castle, it is amazing and there are always some cultural activity. There is the biggest wein barril of the world. Heidelberg University is the oldest one in Germany. Furthermore, the view to the river is very nice. Added to that, there are 25,ooo students whcih make this little town an amizing place to live and to study.

Sometimes it was difficult.
It was a constant struggle.

Overall
Language of instruction: German
Was learning German a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my German
How much did you improve your German?
My level before: Everyday knowledge (shopping, directions, etc.)
My level after: At ease in most situations
Personal comments:
At first it was a struggle especially to converse deeply with others and understand others, while they talked with such rapidity. Also getting used to studying and being instructed in German was difficult at first but well worth the benefits to what I was able to learn. In the end my German became much better, especially since I had a native german speaking girlfriend.

Because germany is simple lot more expensive than in Mexico, or even in Texas, US.
Food, Travel, Nightlife, Overall, Telephone, Housing: was more expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
Well, payin a mothly ticket for the train is lot cheaper as if you had to pay anytime you use it. Also there exists a Bahncard, which you cna bay for a period of one year and then you get a 50% descaunt, which is good when you have to travel often.

In my opinion:
I loved it but I'm not sure everybody would.

During my experience abroad, I ...
Became familiar with another culture
KEY:
Happened all the time.
Happened quite a lot.
Happened a bit.
Didn't happen.
Traveled
Improved language skills
Met people from other countries
Became more independent
Partied a lot
Experienced a change in life
Advanced my studies/career
Personal recommendation:
Heidelberg is a large university and university town, but there are also several international businesses in the area, so it has a very international feel, which at times was great and at times was not exactly what I wanted (English was very common, so it was up to me to make sure I was speaking German in my everyday encounters). It is a beautiful town, and a pretty good location to visit other parts of Germany and Europe.

FINAL COMMENTS

Travel whenever you can (the Bahncard 25 or 50 helps keep some costs down). It is also important to be willing to try new things, and meet new people and to reserve judgement or else you will miss a lot of things.
